    The Agincourt

I really enjoyed this story. Loved how it was written through the eyes of the nurse. Looking forward to reading the Tudor Queen.

    The Agincourt Bride

The story is told to us by Guillaumette (Mette) Dupain daughter of a Baker in Paris in the 1400s during the reign of the mad King of France Charles VI and his wife Queen Isabeau of Bavaria. Through circumstances Mette is moved into the Royal household as a wet nurse and carer for the ever increasing numbers of children by Queen Isabeau. Although due to the King’s ever increasing delusional mindset it is well observed that there are others who have fathered this brood of children. The story revolves around the association of Mette and the youngest royal daughter Catherine. Catherine is removed to a convent for her education befitting a royal and to receive religious instruction. During this time Mette remains in the nursery, she marries herself and has 2 children. Life is complex for Mette with her association with the royal household often having to choose between her own family and her duty. It isn’t until Catherine returns to court that Mette’s existence is greatly improved even with the disregard of her by the Queen as she is a commoner. The author gives a complex and revealing account of French royal life and associated aristocracy in France. The political treachery and waring manoeuvring for power amongst the aristocracy is all there for which many readers will be aware. Both Catherine and Mette are violated and the author does not hold back giving the reader a sad insight into the powerlessness of women. However Catherine in the end marries King Henry V of England
