    Excellent Read

What a great read. A different part of the concentration camps that I personally never knew existed and what people had to do to survive. Well written. Thoroughly enjoyed reading!

    The Dutch Wife

Found putting the book down extremely difficult. So well written , each page tempted me to read another. I felt each characters plight, pain and triumph. Was an answer to mysteries about which I'd long wondered. Thank you for your long research to put together a great novel.

    Brilliantly Weaved

I picked this book for two reasons: First, I enjoy reading WWII era books and secondly, it’s written by a Canadian author. The beginning of the book hooked me in. I feel that it’s actually two stories intertwined, not what I expected. The first, set in first in 1943, we see Marijke and her husband Theo arrested and sent to different concentration camps. With the odds of survival stacked against her, Marijke joins the camp brothel as a means to survive and to try to get information regarding her husband. I had to research this fact and yes, the Nazis established camp brothels to create an incentive for certain prisoners to cooperate with the Nazis. The story concentrates on SS Karl Muller and Marijke whose paths cross. The second, sees us in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1977 when President Isabella Peron lost power to the military junta. The “Dirty War” from 1976 and 1983 is explored. Many citizens were kidnapped, detained, tortured and executed. We follow the life of Luciano Wagner. The author certainly did her research for this book and these two periods of history. She weaves the two stories together brilliantly. I only wished she had written two books to expand both stories.
