    The Golem and the Djinni

This book was a highly enjoyable read, and quite difficult to put down at times! I find it hard to believe that this is a debut novel! The plot is minimal, but in a good way, it does not intrude on, or interfere with, the storytelling. I felt that the depth of charactarisation is what made this book such an enjoyable read. Also, the great deal of research that went into this book is apparent in the wonderful details of the story; both regarding the late 19th century New York, and, the characters beliefs. As the book approached the final few chapters the plot becomes more important, as various plot-threads begin to converge. All the efforts spent building the characters throughout the novel began baring fruit at this point, as you become concerned for favourite characters. This is the best debut novel I have read since Raymond E. Feist's "Magician".

    Good read.

Loved the blend of cultures and lore with history and old New York.
