    For those attracted to minimalism

Surround yourself with only what you love. That's pretty much the main principle of this book. It's an easy, and very well laid out book which makes sense for an organizational book. This book really resonated with me and already I've given away three garbage bags full of clothing, a box of books, cds and dvds, and shredded a two foot high pile of paperwork. I really like the subcategories. She goes over every single type of stuff you could possibly be wondering "what do I do with this?" and "where do I put this?" There's a lot of attributing feelings to things and treating your possessions with respect, so if that's a bit too woo-woo for you, the title should have already been a clue that this book is not for you. 10/10 would read again!

The Life Changing Magic of tidying up

Amazing. A little repetitive but essentially a great guideline on how to purge your "STUFF " and clear your mind and home. I have completed these steps and can honestly say it was messy , time consuming, but so worth it.

The calming effect of reading MarieK

As a very messy student and long-time charm and memento's hoarder I picked up this book with the intention of having a neat calming space instead of another thing to be stressed for. I must say I really enjoy Marie Kondos writing and story telling that teaches her ways of deciphering how to cherish things that bring you joy and discard what has already fulfilled its purpose. The only thing I did not enjoy was the ocassional pseudoscience tone between chapters.

    Some good ideas, some strange

There are definitely some clever and innovative suggestions for creating and maintaining order, though I am a naturally inclined problem solver and tidier so some of the techniques I already use. Some of the techniques and personal feelings that the author wrote about seemed to border on, if not fall into compulsion and obsession. Removing all items from your bag each day to place them in containers and drawers, only to replace them in the morning, seems a bit much. The author describes a moment where she was verging on tears when confronted with a slightly grimey shampoo bottle that just needed to be wiped off...these do not seem like healthy behaviors that will conform to the average lifestyle. By all means, discard or not on the basis of whether an item "sparks joy", that's good advice. But some techniques should be taken with a grain of salt.

Marie Kondo is a book destroying monster

I would have given this book a better rating if she hadn't included a story about her ripping pages out of her books before throwing the books away. She gives great tips on decluttering your life (which I am going to use) but what kind of person destroys books instead of donating them?
