    Corny

I do appreciate everyday reality described in the novel but storyline is corny in "the best" tradition of corny girly romance novels.

Enjoy A Cup of Coffee in Kabul

We in the western world benefit greatly from meeting our counterparts in the east, including countries like Afghanistan, where this novel is set. War and rhetoric and bias have hidden them for too long, especially in this time of refugee suspicion. The author has done a really good job of revealing and humanizing the peoples of Afghanistan, especially the women, as we see their lives and struggles and daily rituals. The plot itself is a bit too simplistic (another reviewer described it as "corny", an adjective I would use as well), but the richness in detail makes up for its sense of soap opera. A worthy read.
