    The Second Chance Tea Room

I am enjoying the story. Easy, light reading with short chapters. I like the author's style. Short

    Good read

Enjoyed this book and look forward to Ms Keenan's next story. It was basically a romance novel but contains a few "unexpecteds". Overall, it held my interest and was worth the purchase.

    Been there, done that!

Anna and her young daughter, Ellie, are trying to make a new start in the small village of Somerby, after the tragic loss of her husband. Anna is taking over the running of the local Tea Shop for her friend for a year, and during that year, she meets her landlord, who is a mysterious, somewhat gruff, father with a teenage daughter. Well, what happens is predictable, with a few added twists and turns. The evil ex-wife returns for a bit of angst, but everything has a fairy tale ending. I thought this book was too predictable and has been done too many times before! I just skimmed the last ten chapters. Very disappointing!

    An emotional rollercoaster wrapped u

Anna Hemmingway has returned to the village she grew up in, Little Somerby, with her three-year-old daughter, Ellie, to rebuild her life after husband, James, tragically lost his life in a car accident. Determined to focus on the future and finding happiness again for her and Ellie, Anna takes on running the local Tea Shop and if she falters along the way, she’s always got childhood friend, Charlotte, on hand for support. Finding love again is the farthest thing from Anna’s mind but she hasn’t bet on the village heartthrob, Matthew Carter, to still be around; running the his father’s cider farm, still smoulderingly handsome and, as luck would have it, divorced into the bargain too. Not only that, Matthew is also a single-parent to teenage daughter, Merry, who has aspirations for her father not to be alone forever… I’m not going to tell you any more than that as to do so would somewhat spoil the plot I feel, but I can promise you it is a rollercoaster of love and emotion. I found it hard to believe this novel came from a debut author as the standard of writing and the conveying of emotion is right up there with some of my favourite romance authors. What surprised and pleased me the most, however, is its unconventional plot. Not simply, boy meets girl, boy and girl like each other and one-hundred-and-one things get in the way to prevent boy and girl being together until the end of the novel. As I say, I don’t want to give anything away but The Second Chance Teashop is exactly that; full of second chances and real life. It was so refreshing to see a contemporary romance novel tackling the day-to-day issues relationships face in the cosy and comforting setting of a Somerset Village. Now I really can’t wait to read Springtime at the Cider Kitchen! Lx
