    I am wowed...

All you need to do, is pick up the book, read a few sentences, and you are hooked. I have to admit, I was very doubtful as to how I would be able to connect with this book. M/M is not a genre I have ever been interested in and I kinda forced myself to read it. But I did because it was written by my all-time favorite author Toni Aleo. And how happy am I to have stepped out of my comfort zone? VERY! Let me start by saying that even for those of you who have not read Toni Aleo’s Assassins series, it is fairly easy to understand and get into the story. Apart from a few specific ‘insides’ only true Assassins fans would understand, the story is beautifully written as a standalone. The author simply has a way to make us fall in love with every character. EVEN MATTY! And that requires magical abilities if you ask me! Readers will discover a Matty that is more vulnerable in this book. But unable to overcome his insecurities and fears, Matty remains on a dark and lonely path for a while, compromising many relationships. The dynamic between his twin sister and himself is exposed in a way that we can better understand him. However, it is his emotional (and physical, duh) desire for Wells that makes us want to hold him in our arms and help him be a better person. Every reader that is familiar with Matty was probably surprised to be rooting for him in the end…HA-HA. As for Wells, he is an all-around good guy. This character is one you want to be best friends with. But to me, his best feature is his integrity. Some might feel that he “imposes” his true self and feelings but to me, it is simply inspiring. The interactions he has with his best friends and his sister are so real…and so funny! And his devotion and compassion toward Matty are downright swoon worthy. Toni wrote this character so that he had just the right amount of patience and tenacity to make him believable and real. I will stop my review here as I would not want to write any spoilers by saying too much! But I will end with this. Toni Aloe is a Magician with her words and I don’t know how it is possible, but it seems like she keeps on getting better! Once again, going through an entire range of emotion as you read Matty and Well’s story. From laughing out loud, to crying, to being so angry! But in the end, this story celebrates authenticity, integrity, and self-acceptance. To me, it illustrated so well how a person who loves and accepts him/herself entirely can achieve fulfillment and bliss…and don’t we all aspire to exactly that? People, take a break, pick up this book and read a few sentences. I am telling you, it is all you need to be hooked. Note to Toni Aleo: Way to kick off yet another genre. You are amazingly awesome. And soo inspiring. Props.

    Lots of Angst

3.5 stars Two-Man Advantage is an emotionally charged read. The book is well-written and the flow is good, but it's a bit more on the angsty side than I care for. Matty is young and in the closet while the older, more experienced, Wells is out and proud. That's where the problem starts for this pair and where it continues for most of the story. I did love the wedding scene and thought, but found it a bit hard to believe that no one present would out Matty. Matty's waffling, while understandable, made me want to both hug him and shake him, often at the same time! The book did hold my interest and is a solid first in the genre for the author, just a little too much angst for my tastes.

    Different and refreshing!

**Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review** I've been a fan of Toni Aleo's books for some time and I was excited that she decided to try her hand at a M/M novel. I'm so happy to say that she did a fantastic job with it and I was very impressed. Wells Lumiere and Matty Haverbrooke are both NHL players and both are gay. They've been in a relationship for some time, however Wells is out and proud, but Matty is having more difficulty with coming out. It's complicated due to the fact his father is the Commissioner of the NHL and he knows he's not going to handle it well. When Wells finally levels an ultimatum that he wants to be completely out with Matty, the relationship ultimately ends when Matty just isn't ready. Fast forward in time and Matty learns that Wells is about to marry someone else, it spurs Matty into action and he seeks out his former flame on his wedding day. Will Matty make it to the church in time? And, if so, will the two of them be able to navigate the rocky waters that will certainly be presented when Matty finally confesses to who he really is? What I loved about this story is the fact that we had an already established couple and they were dealing more with the external influences on their relationship rather than whether or not they were in love and wanted to be together. It was a different take and it was refreshing. I enjoyed both Matty and Wells and having their families involved was a great treat as well. This story kept me engaged from the start and I look forward to whatever Toni offers up to us next!

    Two together

After reading Wren's story I just had to read Wells' as well. At the end of the book, Ms Aleo wrote that this was something she hadn't thought she could do because of the M/M theme but she absolutely nailed it. It took a lot for Matty to do what he did but he did it for the right reasons, so good on him. This book was well written; I didn't know if I would be okay with the more intimate scenes but they were simply an extension and an expression of the love between Wells and Matty. All I can say is "Wow!"

    Great read!

This is Toni Aleo's first M/M book and she scores a winning goal! This is such a well done m/m that anyone who has not dipped into the M/M genre yet and wants to, should definitely start here! We have met Matty and Wells already, but if you haven't read that book yet your good! You can read this as a standalone. Matty Haverbrooke and Wells Limiere are in love. These hockey players have found "the one" in each other. But when one part of the couple doesn't want the world and his family to know who he really is and can't acknowledge the love of his life to them, it's a problem. So much so that it breaks these two apart for a while. How do you come back from that? How do you trust after all the mistrust? How do you find the strength to finally be who you really are? Find out how Matty and Wells reconnect in this sweet, emotional and just wonderful book about true love conquering all.
