  • Habits for Health

    NOTE: This is a review of the regular book, not audiobook. I didn't see where I could leave a review of just the book, but wanted to share so am doing it here. Habit is definitely a buzzword these days. But I think the author has a unique spin on this well-worn topic. He suggests making small, incremental changes that focus on the long-term benefits for health. There's no big makeover you have to attempt all at once. I like that he advises steering clear of the latest trends and gurus in the health field, and his approach is that both diet and exercise be sustainable for long-term health. As such, he doesn't espouse fad diets or no-pain-no-gain exercising. Interestingly, in the beginning, he details his own daily routine and healthful habits that he has incorporated into his life. He has a couple of systems that are unique to him, including an actually trademarked one called DR. ACTION, which is like SMART goals on steroids but to be used at a personal level, not at an Institutional one (which is always how SMART goals struck me). He also has a system of how you choose your goals that he calls Stop, Review, Pivot, and Power, which helps you figure out where you're at and where you might want to be. All in all, I found this to be a fascinating read that engages you to think about the various aspects of your health and what they could mean to you, and then it gives you some tools to help implement the incremental habits that you deem relevant and worthwhile to your health. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
