    Clever

I am biased here as I like all his books. This was the audio book version, liked it. About the story itself I was a little worried the "magic" component would put me off, however the fascinating logistics and technology angle were grand enough to overshadow it. The nice part of audio format was slow parts can be played at 1.4 to 1.8 speed without missing parts of the story. To me, if Anathem ranks 6.5, SevenEves a 9 and Diamond Age ranks 9.5 then the Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O would be an 8. Format read as a journal entry point of view was good and fit well with the overall story. To break out the scoring a bit.. cool idea/fascinating logistics would be a 9 and the page-turner/can't-put-it-down value would be 7. To me that's the perfect blend. Unique enough to want to glean the unique ideas and still allow me to put it down so it doesn't interfere with sleep/work. Bit off my recent futuristic tech path of interest, but cool enough to make the diversion worth it.

The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.

Some of the middle parts, with the seemingly endless documents and the way they were read, did drag on. But for the most part, this book was a lot of fun, and the concepts were well-diagrammed.

    Disappointed

It was described as science fiction and while it contained elements of magic and time travel, it was done so in a comical way. Just not my thing.
