    A bit too detailed

This first in the series is a good story. Quite believable, and lots of character development. A very plausible scenario and very timely in our history. Those points aside the book reads like a "prepped for dummies" book. What was irritating is the constant in depth descriptions of meals and how they were prepared. I get it. If this scenario were to become even partially true, finding and preparing meals would become a daily task. It just seems to overwhelm the plot. And consumes nearly 40% of the book. Considering the next book in the series, but not likely to run out and buy it.

    Decent but, yes, fiction

I did like the book, I am going to read more of them. But, in Going Home, things fall into place just to easily, and happy endings for all abound. Yup, he is either a pack mule of a man because in his pack he has a tarp, a bivy, a tent, a hammock, 3 different cooking stoves, fuel, a complete sleep system, HAM radio equipment, batteries, guns with ample ammo....MRE's changes of cloths...so, yes, it is fiction. But it is is a fun read. There are lessons to be learned, even if the author's vocabulary is limited and writing style linear, I still wanted to keep reading, get to the next hurdle, and see how it concluded.

    Going home

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It may not be the most polished writing style, but it was a good, interesting read
