13 Minutes is a novel by Sarah Pinborough which might be considered a YA book. I am far from that age and enjoyed it. This is the second story I've read by Ms Pinborough and it certainly will not be the last. Ms Pinborough has a knack of immediately pulling the reader into the story and making them care about the characters while she also keeps the reader guessing what comes next.

Intricately planned, slightly creepy and completely unpredictable mystery. If Mean Girls with more murder and a wicked twist ending appeals to you, read this.

  • Flat, boring characters make this otherwise interesting plot completely unremarkable.

I struggled with this book. I went into it wanting to like it - I enjoy a good mystery and the concept sounded interesting... But the book was nearly unreadable thanks to characters who are completely unlikeable. Teenagers are a difficult group to write about without making them stereotypes of stereotypes of stereotypes, and the author did not succeed here. Every single character in this book is a flat, irritating stereotype with no redeeming qualities. It makes the book painful to read.
