    Disappointing

Sorry but I found this very disappointing for the price. The layout was confusing with seemingly random blocks of text interspersed between a fairly limited and vague plot... maybe I'm just not familiar with this authors style....

    Fascinating, but slow, read

It took me a while to get through this, which seemed somehow appropriate with the discussions of the different speeds and personalities of the characters. 2312 describes an interesting but conceivable future in vivid imagery through various writing styles. It took a while to get into the flow of it, but I enjoyed it and found myself thinking about it when not reading it.

A prophetic look at a not too distant future.

KSR manages to capture the future gains , losses, drama and tragedy of the human race in a time not to far away from where we are now. There is a lot that should be listened to and looked at in depth within this novel, before we tip the balance of the scales beyond the point of no return.

    Magnificent

One of the best science fiction books I have read in a while. It's been a while since I read a book that had me this engaged. Sometimes it was hard to put down, and I enjoyed it tremendously. It paints a realistic picture of human society 208 years whence, with all the boons and problems that come with technology in that time, and a good depiction of how human societies can act and be influenced, driven by reason, fear, and ambition. Reading some reviews on Goodsreads some people didn't like the main character because of her attitude. I however, while not always liking her, recognised the main character for what she was: a human being with her own virtues, vices, her own personal quirks. Just like any one of us. However, I found the end to be a bit anti-climactic. Somehow I expected something more spectacular. The style of writing, specifically the chapters with background information, are interesting, but sometimes can be a bit annoying. Despite these criticisms, I still gave the book a well-deserved five-stars, because they don't weigh up to how engaged I was with the story, I could fully imagine it all in my head, I was right there with the characters. Whence my five-star score for this book.
