A Bad Day For Sunshine is humorous and quirky read. I love the cast of characters and and can't wait to read more of this series. The relationship between Sunshine and her daughter Auri is very reminiscent of the mother/daughter relationship in Gilmore Girls. I loved it and can't wait to get my questions answered. I definitely recommend it.

  • Fantastically entertaining!

This was fantastic! It had all the elements that I loved in the author's Charley Davidson series but with a new set of characters and a whole new world that I absolutely loved. I am so excited for this new series. I can already tell you this will be a series I will want to re-read often. Those elements I mentioned is the snarky heroine, fun sidekicks and an incredibly intense hero. To me it's the perfect formula to an entertaining series. As fun and entertaining as this book was, it also had some pretty heavy material. I can admit that I cried a couple times. There are a few sad moments that really pulled on my heart. It's a well rounded book with everything it provides. This author really knows how to build up the intensity for her couples. She seems to love that delayed satisfaction and normally I would say that I want it now, but I can't deny that it's worth the wait. The longer it takes for the couple to get together, the more the intensity builds. I think this couple will be another explosive relationship to look forward too. If I thought it would do any good, I would beg for the next book to be published soon after A Bad Day for Sunshine. This doesn't end on a cliffhanger but you also know there is more to come and I can't wait!

  • Deputy Sunshine

As usual Darynda Jones does not disappoint. New characters start a new series taking place in the village of Del Sol, New Mexico. Returning to her hometown Sunshine Vicram adjust to her new job as sheriff. First on her plate is to find a missing girl. Sunshine and her daughter work together gathering clues. Can't wait to see where this story goes. "A copy of this book was provided by St. Martin's Press via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

  • A very fun and exciting start to a new series.

I always get very excited when I hear that Darynda Jones is writing/releasing a new book. So after the conclusion of the Charley Davidson series, I really looked forward to seeing what she would come up with next. Darynda is one of my favorites authors, so I would've one-clicked this book without even reading the blurb (and I only do that with a few authors). A Bad Day for Sunshine is the first book in the Sunshine Vicram series. The main character is Sunshine and she just got elected as sheriff of Del Sol, New Mexico, the town where she grew up in, without her knowledge. So she and her fourteen year old daughter, Auri, move back to Del Sol. This town is pretty weird and has some interesting characters living there. It took me some time to learn all the new characters and get used to everything. Also a lot was going on, so it felt a bit chaotic at times. Multiple things were happening at the same time, so I really had to focus to remember what was going on. I am used to this from Darynda, but this being the first book in the series I just had to get used to everything. I do have to say that there was no dull moment. The story didn't give me the opportunity to get bored. I was intrigued, and curious to see what would happen next. It was mysterious, suspenseful, funny, and heartbreaking at times. Darynda Jones always finds the perfect combination of elements to keep me hooked to the story. I already feel strong connection to the characters, and I really loved that the book was told from a dual mother/daughter POV. Both Sunshine and Auri are amazing, and I absolutely love their unique relationship. Also I am intrigued and already in love with Sunshine's almost-old-flame Levi Ravinder. He is broody, stand-offish, but he has a great heart. I can't wait to learn more about him, and see a relationship develop between him and Sunshine. There are a couple of secrets I can't wait to see unfold in the upcoming books. A Bad Day for Sunshine is in my opinion a great first book to a new series. And I think fans of her Charley Davidson series would enjoy this book as well.

  • Quirky, clever, suspenseful, and outrageously funn

A Bad Day for Sunshine is a sexy, compelling read that transports you to Del Sol, New Mexico, where strange and unusual things are known to happen, and new police chief, Sunshine Vicram, is having quite the first day with a runaway vehicle, a missing teenage girl, a lost, special needs boy, the kidnapping of a valuable rooster, as well as the unexpected presence of her unrequited love interest and the haunting memories of a past she’d like to forget. The prose is witty and sharp. The characters are unique, multilayered, and endearing. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel quickly into a humourous, yet thrilling tale filled with family, friendship, heartbreak, secrets, jealousy, obsession, mystique, violence, spirited hijinks, hilarious mishaps, and small-town antics. Overall, A Bad Day for Sunshine is an intricate, fresh, edgy mystery that kept me entertained and amused from the very first page. It’s the first novel I’ve read by Jones, but based on this creative, fantastic start to this new Sunshine Vicram series, I can guarantee you it won’t be my last.
