  • Great Companion Book to Victoria Square Mysteries

A Basket Full of Bargains (Life on Victoria Square #2) by Lorraine Bartlett is a companion story to the Victoria Square Mystery series. This story takes place mostly in the Gilda’s Gourmet Basket store. Iris Drake is a stranger but is known by sight by most shop owners in Victoria Square. Gilda takes an interest in Iris and starts asking questions to learn more about her. One day Iris is visiting Gilda’s shop when something embarrassing happens to Iris. Should Gilda interfere in Iris’s life and offer her help? I really enjoyed this story, it is a quick read but is well written. I enjoyed getting to know Gilda and Iris on a more personal level. This is a heartwarming story about caring, understanding, and supportive kindness (not pitying) for someone in need. This book contains no graphic violence/sex, or bad language. I would recommend this book and plan on reading more in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book, above is my honest opinion.

  • a heartwarming story

Iris Drake is a little odd. She's a frequent visitor to Artisans Alley but she only spends a few dollars at a time. When she steps into Gilda's Gourmet Baskets with a number of carefully selected items to sell, Gilda becomes curious about this rather secretive lady, but finds the other vendors know little about Iris. This story has a lot of heart and is a nice companion to the Victoria Square series.

  • More than she bargained for

In this vignette of life on Victora Square we visit Gilda's Gourmet Baskets and learn why we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Gilda's shop is finally in the black, though she fears it won't stay that way for long if she has too many cusstomers like Iris Drake. Iris, a frequent visitor to the shop, as well as Artisan's Alley, never spends much - if any - money. One day Iris brings in a bag of her treasures and Gilda starts to formulate a plan. However, before she can put it into action, there is an incident, a secret is revealed and Iris is embarrassed and disappears... Gilda has to use her creativity to resolve the situation. This is a nice companion piece to the Victoria Square Mysteries and I look forward to future installments in both series.
