  • Growing up in a war

It took me a while to get into the story - probably because it's not my usual genre. By about a quarter of the book, however, the two sisters had developed and matured and fully engaged my interest. I'm glad that I persisted. The girls took different paths in life - different regions of Vietnam, different loves and finally both made their way to the US. [Reviewed on Goodreads on 30 September 2020.]

  • A Sensitive Story

This book is outside the murder mysteries that Libby Fischer Hellmann is known. It is a well researched book that examines the life and choices that two sisters (teenage girls) make to survive the ravages of the Vietnam war. Beautifully written, we are not exposed to judgement of the choices or the consequences Instead we experience each sister’s pain, fear and their eventual reconciliation. A wonderful book well worth reading.
