Amazing Characters, World, & Love Story

This is the story of Teer and Bruce. Bruce is a pilot in Alaska who’s still processing the death of his partner. Teer is an extraterrestrial warrior with an affinity for bright colors, high heels, and plants. There’s a lot to like here: a definite sense of the absurd, rendered in vivid detail, and sharp writing throughout. My favorite part, however, is 100% Teer. I absolutely loved this book because it let me see through Teer’s eyes. He adapts as best he can, but humans are so weird. Their planet is weird. Their people are weird. Bruce is also weird, but, like Teer, he’s lonely and adrift. Their connection isn’t easy or immediate, but it is heartfelt, and a lifeline for them both. This is a relatively quick read, but it packs a real punch. I wholeheartedly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Alien species may not be so different

This short novel was the most original sci-fi story I have read - engaging and allowing me to suspend disbelief easily. Teer has been banished to the remote, barbaric planet, Earth, far from civilization. One of the indigenous life forms (a human), Bruce, is grieving and living mechanically, by routine. When these two broken beings' paths cross, each helps repair the other. Wonderful possibilities open. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    An unexpected love story

This is the first book I have read by this author and it won't be the last. While being a short story, there is a lot of depth and emotion. General Teer is exiled from his home planet and sent to earth as punishment. He slowly has to learn to assimilate and understand human behaviour and traditions. As the earth's temperature is higher than back home he ends up working in a flower shop in Alaska. Teer's home planet is desert like so the abundance of flowers is a joy for him to surround himself with. It is here that he meets Grumpy Bruce. Both Bruce and Teer are grieving a severe loss though they show it in different ways. It starts off as a weird friendship and ends up being two lonely souls who need each other. I really enjoyed their story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
