    A great read

Like the first in the series, you'll feel the warmth of Becky's characters through her writing. This book is otherwise quite different from the first: it has different main characters, and themes of purpose and identity and finding a place in a world not made for you.

    Wow, what a sequel

I was expecting a continuation of the story from Book 1 but the book takes a different tack entirely - and is so much the richer for doing so. There are many themes running through the intertwined plotlines: what it is to be human (or perhaps sentient), compassion, courage, how we find meanings in our lives and how we face challenges to become what we aspire to be. The book gives further insights into the Wayfarer universe, which is neither a utopia nor dystopia but an engagingly realistic mixture of good and bad and people trying to make the best of it. I do hope Ms Chambers is working on a Book 3.
