  • Action-packed, suspenseful and passionate romance

This is one second chance story I can definitely get behind. A tough, fearless heroine and a strong but slightly vulnerable hero get a second chance at happiness while facing off against a powerful adversary in this action-packed, suspenseful and passionate romance. NSA agent Nathan Ortiz's new assignment is a tough one. The mysterious disappearance of women in Miami has come to the attention of authorities and he's part of the task force sent in to investigate. Returning to Miami brings back memories of his first love and his half-formed plan to reconnect with her but he does not expect to find her at the center of his investigation and he's definitely not willing to sit by the sidelines while she gets further embroiled in the danger surrounding the case. Amelia Rios overcame a challenging upbringing to become a successful businesswoman and is always willing to give others a hand up, so when her restaurants are linked to the missing women, she's determined to find justice for them even at the risk of danger to herself and even though it means working side by side with the only man she's ever loved, the same man whose heart she broke. The chemistry between them is still as hot as it was in the past, but Amelia knows she has to come clean about the secret she's been keeping in order for her to have a chance at a future with Nathan. This is my first book in this series but I've read other series by Ms. Reus and as usual the story is solid, well-written and completely absorbing. Amelia is smart, shrewd and displays an amazing strength of character, willingly putting herself in danger to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of the women. Nathan on the other hand is mostly rational except where it involves Amelia's well-being, then his inner caveman comes out to play, which I loved especially because she's up to the task of handling him, by being either soft or forceful when needed. I love that the connection between them remained alive in the twelve years they spent apart. I definitely will recommend this book to anyone looking to read about a show stealing and fearless heroine or a very great second chance story. This is really a stand-alone book because it completely focuses on the primary couple and only mentions characters from the other books in passing, so there is no compelling need to read the previous books before this one, but I would recommend reading the previous books (which I plan to, soon). Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

  • Explosive !!

This one picks up in the blown up subway from the previous book. Freeman and Ortiz are trapped down in that thing and someone is still shooting. Women are disappearing many more than anyone thought but who is taking them? Wesley has taken Ortiz into the Black Death 9 and since he is off bed rest he hopes Ortiz is ready for an op. Nathan meets Amelia once more and sparks fly. True to form with this author, we get just enough suspense and romance. I enjoyed this book and to be honest I believe it is my favorite so far in this series. I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review.

  • Edgy, hot and full of suspense!

Love, love, love! The Deadly Ops Series by Katie Reus is one of the best romantic suspense series I have read. Each book in the Deadly Ops series is unique with a creative, original plot but the same fantastic writing and some of the same characters from previous books. Phenomenal. A Covert Affair is a captivating, heated, romantic suspense that will pull you in from the beginning and won’t let you go until the very last page. Nathan and Amelia are the main characters of the story and after spending many years apart are thrust back together to uncover a mystery of missing women. When you read many books and there are second chance love stories, you tend to subconsciously guess on how the relationship will go. Yes, they usually get together in the end (it would suck if they didn’t) but the path to that forever love is the adventure. Reus does a remarkable job with this one. Nathan works for the NSA and isn’t able to tell Amelia about his job or the details of the case she is helping them with. He stays true to this role and while it does cause problems at times this makes their story a little more realistic. The intimacy between Nathan and Amelia is off the charts. You can feel the chemistry between the two and their emotions come right off the pages. Now let’s talk about the suspense aspect of the book. Wow. The plot in A Cover Affair is unique, but creepy and Reus always know how to scare the pants off of me with her villains, or the minions of her villains. The story was intriguing enough that I was flipping pages and thought I knew who the villain was but had no clue until the end. Reus describes the action scenes fantastically and offers just the right amount of technical description without slowing the story down or confusing the reader. I can’t talk about a Deadly Ops books and not mention Wesley. He has made an appearance in all the books and is just freaking awesome. I wish we could read a book about his personal relationship with a female and maybe he was in danger and his team (the guys/gals in previous books) all had to come together to save him? A Covert Affair is another amazing book in the Deadly Ops series. It can be read as a stand alone so if you haven’t read the others, you can still start with this one. If you like romantic suspense, with an excellent balance of romance and suspense, give A Cover Affair a read.
