    Fabulous prequel!

A fabulous read! This is a prequel to the previous Ian Rutledge novels and starts on "A Fine Summer's Day"; Ian proposes to Jean in London & the Austrian heir is assassinated in Sarajevo. What follows both events will shape Ian's future. In the meantime, Ian is embroiled in a series of mysterious deaths and his handling of the deaths, that he believes are murders, will determine his future relationship with his boss Bowles & explain much of the antipathy between the two in later years. A haunting novel that captures England before the Great War and Ian before he is haunted by Hamish.

    Suspense without the gory details!

This series is a refreshing change from modern crime fiction the writers of which, tend to compete with each other to shock and revolt the reader with gory details which add nothing to the suspense. Todd has a talent for history and a good grasp of crime fiction. A great read!

    A Fine Summer Day

This was another well plotted book by Todd Charles, read it to not only enjoy the story itself but to also gain a better understanding of Inspector Ian Rutledge!
