  • A Finer End

Deborah Crombie has done it again. She spun a tale that left me reeling from one suspect to another. Setting her story on Glastonbury was particularly fascinating as I had been there several years ago. The spirit of long age and deep contentment filled her book just as it did the ruins of the abbey. What a great read!

  • Glastonbury and "A Finer End".

I first went to Glastonbury on a high school field trip. Even then it was as magical or more so as the ancient seat of pagan/Christian Britain as Deborah Crombie encapsulates it in her rivetting crime novel with Duncan and Gemma at the helm. The clarity of her writing is infused with deeply held humanity that makes this novel as compellingly spell binding as all of her other works.

  • A Finer End

This was a waste of time. Full of mystical garbage about a 12th century monk channeling chants and Kincaid’s brother writing under some kind of spell. It was only after the tenth chapter that someone was run down by a car and a midwife was killed the next day. This spiritual foo-foo stuff is not my cup of tea so take your chances if you wish. I hope the next book is better.
