    Amazing Read

I've been reading all the science fiction I could get my hands on since I was a kid. After I read this, book, I was astounded that I had never heard of Vernor Vinge before picking it up. With this book, Vernor Vinge secures his place among the titans of science fiction. It is easily the equal of anything written by Asimov or Clarke. Read it!

    An interesting read

For me, this was a so-so effort. The plot was intriguing and carried off pretty well. The characters were drawn rather crudely and never met the dimensions of drawing emotion from the reader. The ending was satisfying but why this occupied so little space is beyond me. The whole book is a setup for this ending and it is written almost as an afterthought. Pity.

    What a disappointment

Picked this book up with high hopes. It won a HUGO award for crying out loud, but failed to grab me on any level. It was hard to figure out what's going on, the characters are underdeveloped and the alien dogs .... Some interesting concepts, but that's all it really was. I am giving up on this book for now - it makes me feel stupid - I simply can't figure out why it would receive such rave reviews... TIP: If you like Peter Hamilton stuff or Iain Banks or Frank Herbert - I bet you will not like this one.
