  • I love every heart-stopping word!

The tone of this book was brutal compared to book one but I couldn't but it down. I cursed, cheered and shed a tear or two. I wanted to shake Rhen until his teeth rattled. I can't wait to read how this cluster muck Rhen created then made a thousand times worse is going to be resolved, especially with that ending.

  • Great book, looking forward to #3

I really enjoyed this book. Definitely worth a read. However I’m not happy with the change in tone/portrayal of Rhen throughout it. I understand that it may be necessary for where she’s trying to go with the story but I still don’t like it. And it does all come together in the last chapter... so keep with it if you’re a Rhen lover. Also... I need more Rhen and Harper.

  • So good

Remind me of ember in the ashes. It is rare to read such an engrossing book. Especially after getting so involved with the characters in the first book, it is a mystery to wonder what is going on with them throughout most of this book.

  • Romantic With Great Characters

A fantastic book for anyone who loves character driven stories and slow burn romance. Grey was easily my favourite character in ACSDAL and he stole most of the show here. We were also introduced to more lore and creatures, drama, and new characters who I absolutely adored. Grey has a great arc. He continues to be a sweet, noble and loyal man, despite a horrible betrayal he suffers. I loved watching him struggle between what was right and what he desired. I constantly rooted for him and his gentle heart. Lia Mara is a new character and I truly related to her. She is strong in ways she doesn't know, and she has such a great heart. I really hope to see more of her as she has such a great personality and I think her story is very strong. The romance between Grey and Lia Mara is a sweet, earnest one that I really enjoyed. They have excellent scenes together and are an ideal relationship. The book focuses more on personalities and characters rather than action, but there were plenty of great moments and tension and twists that led to a satisfying ending. That said, the prologue is intense and I hope there will be more on the way. A worthy follow up to this strong series!

  • Amazing

Seriously, Kemmerer knows how to torture me. This book is beautiful. Nothing is black and white, it's all shades of grey(ha) and I never knew what would come next. All of the characters are unique and the connections between them are not simple, much like in real life.
