    A Holiday by Gaslight

I loved this. It's one of those stories I want never to end-I wants generations of this story! But don't let that turn you away. This is a great holiday read!

    historical romance

Loved it – from beginning to end! Having read only one other book by this author I wanted to see if she could hold my attention, make me care and believe in the characters as she did in The Matrimonial Advertisement – AND – I have to say she definitely did. This is a novella length story that packs a lot into a few pages. It deals with the concept of women and their “value” on the marriage market, the idea of status and station, progress in science and society, economizing, love vs duty, societal expectations vs emotions, and how not having an heir could impact a family. I found myself actually there with Sophie and Ned and wanting them to find a way to be together. I could see how Sophie wanted at least the potential of more than the traditional emotionless marriage and applauded her for trying to achieve it. I felt for Ned as he tried to do what was “right” only to find that it might not get him what he wanted. The people were well fleshed out and believable as was the story AND I have to say that ANY book that comes my way that is written by this author is one that I will snap up in a second. Thank you to NetGalley and Perfectly Proper Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

    A Delightful Story

This is a new author to me and when I saw the beautiful cover and title, I just had to read it! Set in Victorian England, we find our heroine, Sophie, knowing that she needs to marry for money. You see her father overspent trying to keep up with the times by putting in gas lines and running water in their home. I mean wouldn't you have done the same with these inventions to make life easier? Sophie began a courtship with a tradesman, Ned Sharpe. But after a couple of months, it seemed they truly were not comparable But at Christmas, even something magical might happen to bring these two together. I really enjoyed the details and historical descriptions brought forth in this novella and hope to read more by this author in the future! I read this through NetGallery

    Lovely book

Mr Edward Sharpe is a very reserved man, but he loves Sophie. He has looked at her for a long time, but never talked to her. He has asked to court her. Sophie's father is so caught up in putting modern technology such as gaslight in his estate that he has let his family go. Sophie tells Edward that she cannot marry him as they don't suit. He feels very deeply but seems cold and indifferent. He doesn't ask her to give him another chance. After talking to her mother, she goes to Edward's office to invite him to their Christmas House party so they can get to know each other better. Will Edward show Sophie his heart? Will Sophie be able to love Edward? I adored this book of misunderstandings and love. I received this book from Net Galley and Perfectly Proper Press for a honest review and no compensation otherwise.

    Perfect Christmas Read

Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and when I saw the cover to A Holiday by Gaslight, I melted. This novella is like cozying up in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa. It wraps your heart with warmth and leaves you with a feel-good feeling. Indeed, a delectable Christmas treat for all.
