  • More than just a husband

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Rose and Jack. Rose is a single mom, her husband is MIA from Pearl Harbour, and is working at a back. Unfortunately for her, the bank is giving her job back to its original owner, Captain Jack Campbell. Jack is intrigued with Rose, but she fights his advances tooth and nail. The story is about their relationship and finding happiness in the aftermath of the war. A HEA of true proportions. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • Partner Abuse for Christmas. Ugh.

During the past couple of months, I have been combing over the pickings at my favorite book review sites, looking specifically for holiday romances. The premise of this one seemed both sweet and very real. The sweet part: a little girl wishing for a husband for her mommy and a daddy for her for Christmas; her father was lost during World War II. The realistic part: the mother loses her job as the men return from war. That was so many brave and industrious women's lot after World War II. At the book review site, there was no mention whatsoever of any spanking involved; I see the publisher has added a note about it at Kobo, so at least potential buyers will know. That is so not my thing in real life, and certainly, I don't want to read about it in fiction. I would have never chosen this book if I had known it had such an element. The hero was a bit of a jerk at other times, as well. This premise had such potential and could have been a heart-warming holiday read. If you don't mind a book where an adult male spanks an adult female as true “discipline,” not for consensual fun, you might like this book better than I did. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

    Thanks for your feedback!
