    Amazing Sequel!

I'm utterly speechless after finishing A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire. As always Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my top favourite authors and when I finished the first book, From Blood and Ash, I knew immediately that the second book was going to be one of my most anticipated reads of 2020. This amazing fantasy series is a must read because it has action, romance and so many twist and turns that you will have a book hangover after reading it. Plus we get more Hawke/Cas. I definitely took my time with the second book and it paid off because there was so much going on in each scene that I wanted to absorb every detail to prepare myself for the third book. A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire picks up right where we left off in From Blood and Ash where Poppy has just learned she is now to become Casteel's wife. Not everyone there is too thrilled (Atlantians and the Wolven). Jen created an amazing world that she has created with a mixture of vampires and mythology of the backgrounds of the Atlantians, Descenters and the wolvens. Also I love how there is a map now! If you loved Poppy and Cas in FB&A you will fall in love with them more in AKOFAF. Out of all of Jen's couples I think these two are one of my favourites couples. Poppy is just as much stabby with Casteel and their character growth through the entire book was amazing. I loved every moment. You can immediately see how much their feelings has changed to more in this book because they are thrown into situations that come up and do it together as a team. Even though Cas betrayed Poppy they have to come together to defeat the Craven and the Descenters. I also found some of my favourite quotes are between these two, some hilarious and some jaw dropping moments right to the amazing romance Cas and Poppy have. As a huge fan of Jen's, not reading spoilers was the key to me finishing the book because I wanted to know every detail and also how it was important to the first book. It all intertwines! A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire was an amazing read that you will not be able to put it down! All 496 pages worth! There are lots of twist and turns you will not see coming, especially that ending! I'm still in shock. This book was perfection. 100% I will be recommending this book to friends. Now to patiently wait until the next book!!! If you are looking for your next fantasy read go start this series now!

    Wow!

4.5☆ My mind is still reeling after finishing A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire, but I'll try to put my thoughts into words. First off this book is long! I felt like I was making decent progress each day, only to find out I was only making a small dent. For as long as the book is, there isn't any fluff, which I appreciated. It's packed full of content that keeps you wanting more. AKoFaF is filled with humor, action, drama, and so much emotion. The first half of the book was interesting, but it really takes off in the second half. I felt even more sucked in and was very curious as to what was in store for the characters. I've loved Poppy from the start and have always felt for her and everything that she has been through. She has a lot of questions and a lot to learn still. She also has to process everything that happened to her in From Blood and Ash, and that's not easy for her and takes some time. I love how strong Poppy is. She's not afraid to speak her mind, or whip out her dagger. She's a wonderful character and I really enjoy being in her head. Now, onto Casteel. I will admit that I loved him in the first half of FBaA, but not so much by the end. I was angry with him and disappointed in his decisions. After finishing AKoFaF, he is making his way back up to love, but he's not quite there yet. He made a lot of progress in my opinion. While he can still be frustrating and a bit annoying at times, he opens up more. You can really see all the different sides of him, and I appreciated seeing those. He really can be quite sweet when he wants to be. Side note, it luckily didn't take as long as I thought for me to refer to him as Casteel instead of Hawke. Kieran was also a hoot and I loved seeing the friendship develop between him and Poppy. Like I said a lot happens in AKoFaF, and I will admit sometimes it can be hard to keep up with all the new information and characters, but that's something I've always struggled with in fantasy books. Other than that I really enjoyed A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire, even more than From Blood and Ash. I can't wait for the 3rd book, especially after that ending! I need answers!

A fiery sequel to this epi series

Holy mother of all things fantasy. What a fiery sequel to this series. It is quickly becoming one of my top fav by JLA and I got swallowed by this world for quite some time. This was such a unique build up of this story, of the characters and the plot. And OMG that ending was spectacular. I did expect something grand and story-changing in the final part but wow. This went above and beyond. This book was the perfect package of a phenomenal world, complex characters, picturesque sceneries, a delicious mix of emotional, humorous and steamy scenes, epic battles and fights and all this tide up with the most exquisite bow with this magnificent cover. It's simply a must read in the genre. I absolutely loved Poppy and the character development she went through. She was the strongest, toughest and relentless JLA heroine ever and even though she had her moments of vulnerability, she grew-up on me and I was amazed by the way she stepped out of the Maiden stereotype of a closed and isolated person and stood-up for herself in front of others. And Hawke or whatever other name he was called now. Well, sigh. He was just dreamy and I fell head over heels in love with him even more. His determination to keep his loved ones safe was admirable, and his growing feelings for the fiery redhead were so sweet to witness although he was trying to deny them for quite some time. It was so much fun having them bicker like an old couple and their witty come-backs were so funny, I had a grin on my face at some parts. The stabbing references were hilarious. I was so frustrated with their refusal to accept what was happening between them and really wanted to strangle them for their unreasonable stubbornness to admit they were meant for each other. There was so much pent-up tension and emotions but once they reached the point of realization and accepting everything between them - it all became so much more real, powerful and explosive. The steam, the passion, the feelings, the hidden truths, the love – everything just exploded and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out more and more hidden secrets. The ending was simply mind-blowing for a lack of a better word to describe the whole fiasco of activities, sceneries and mysteries revealed. It left me speechless and wanting more of this world and setting. This is JLA at her very finest – loveable characters, unique fantasy setting, creatures and nail-biting plot-twists, beautiful and passionate romance, and intriguing story. Definitely top-notch high fantasy, a must read and my absolute fav for this year.

A+ Character Growth and a Captivating Story!

AKOFAF picks up right where the first book left off; Casteel has announced they will travel to Atlantia to get married. Before that can happen, Cas has his work cut out for him to prove his feelings for Poppy are genuine. AKOFAF has them both learning to reestablish trust after the blows his betrayal cost them. However, that is only part of the larger experience that Poppy is going through as she embarks on her own journey to learn more about who she is and the kind of person she wants to be. She also learns to step up and take accountability for the role she inadvertently played in the destruction that Solis created. It is a beautifully wrought part of her story and one that I think reflects a very real need for people to recognize their own complicity in systems of structural oppression. We also get even more insight into the Atlantians. They are a fascinating culture and laying the foundations for who the are, where they come from, and what upheavals they are facing really bring their part in the story into focus. I think AKOFAF really toes the line between character development and plot progression very well; there is certainly a lot of growth for the characters (particularly Poppy) and we are introduced to quite a few new faces. Each of the new characters bring a lot to the table and the part they play had my mind buzzing with possibilities! Plenty happens and each event is elegantly interspersed with character development that really demonstrates how everything happening is affecting the characters. I think a few events are also breadcrumbs that will have more relevance as the story progresses in the upcoming books. Lastly - while there is no shortage of twists, reveals, and serious developments there is also a good sprinkling of levity that will surprise you as you go from tense to laughing. The chemistry between Poppy and Cas is as simmering as ever, the tension between them scorching, and the heat levels ... well let's just say they put FBA to shame. Kieran also continues to delight and serve as a source of great amusement but also a source of common sense and reason. I received an advance issue and chose to review voluntarily.
