    I Enjoyed the Historical Detail

After fighting in The Holy Land on a crusade, Warin de Taillur, troubled by the bloodshed, intends to dedicate his life to The Lord at Mont St.Michel. However, he rescues Alayne, a waif, whose father and brothers are dead, and whose aunt has stolen her property in England. Warin thinks Alayne is a boy called Alan. When Warin realises she is a young girl he becomes her knight errant. I enjoyed the historical detail, the value of peppercorns, which could be exchanged for goods, the description of a make-shift market at a tourney in which Warin takes part, and much more. I also enjoyed getting to know Warin and Alayne, who are mediaeval people, not 21st century characters dressed in costume. Poetry has a place in prose. Amongst others, I particularly enjoyed A.M. Westerling's phrase: "the sun's rays slanted before them like honeyed arrows." If you enjoy heart-warming, well written historical romance, mystery and suspense, you will enjoy A Knight for Love
