    Well written and romantic

Jake Porter was wounded during his stint in the Marines. But his mental scars are much worse than the external ones. PTSD, survivors guilt, and a loss of his faith make for a very tormented man. He is intimidating, quiet, and brooding. But his gift for horses speak to the man he still is inside. Years ago Lyndie and Jake were best friends. Lyndie is now back in town and wants a job working for Jake. Can she get past the scars and torment to reach the man she use to know? I fell in love with this story. The complexity and depth made this more than just a sweet romance. The author did a wonderful job of portraying the anguish in Jake's soul and the love in Lyndie's heart. The families represented were authentic and really showed their love and support to the two main characters. There was definitely romance and chemistry between the couple. This was a romance, after all. But the strong message of faith was woven so expertly throughout the story that I finished the book feeling awed by the amazing love of God. Once again this author has written an beautiful story. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I received this book free of charge from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for my honest review.

lows with the highs, but beautiful

This is a Christian Romance so God & faith play a huge part in the story. Sometimes these books only have a special innocence and a hint of religion but here it is a center point of the story - Lyndie’s belief in a good God and Jake’s turning away from his. I love the idea of these two having a connection even though they haven’t seen each other in decades. There are people who are that special and make such an impact on you that they live in your heart forever and that’s Jake & Lyndie. But a lot has happened to him since then and it has left scars both inside and out. Jake is dealing with a lot of survivor’s guilt and PTSD from his time as a Marine. It’s led him to a dark and troubled place. He’s still a good man – one who cares for his family and takes his obligations seriously – but he feels unworthy and that’s led him to distance himself from others. Then Lyndie comes back into his life. Her life with a disabled sister has taught her a lot about love, grace and faith. Her patience and understanding, plus her belief in a good God, gives her the ability to see into Jake and hope to be able to help him. She knows that God is what he needs but he needs to find his faith again. He just has to find it within himself to want to make that connection again. It’s a lovely journey for both of them – one that has extreme lows to go with the highs but beautiful nonetheless. (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review)

    A Time of Healing

Unconditional love, hope, optimism, overcoming obstacles, trust, forgiveness - these are the things that this book is about! I didn't want this book to end. I wanted time to slow down while I was reading yet it actually went faster! In short, I adored this book! It's very emotional as you take a step into Jake Porter's world of PTSD and horses. What he experienced in Afghanistan and Iraq cannot be undone. He relives it every day and because of that, he lives a lonely, emotionally painful, solitary life. BUT, it isn't a sad book in any way - just the opposite! Jake doesn't do relationships and focuses all his attention on training horses - Thoroughbred horses. The author takes us into his world of just trying to get through each day as he struggles with survivors guilt and PTSD. Becky does an amazing job of that! I learned so much more about this than I already do and I'm so grateful for our military! Lyndie was Jake's childhood best friend but moved away when she was 12. She's back now and gets a job exercising his Thoroughbreds. Jake worries constantly that she will get hurt. Lyndie doesn't understand his fear but what she does is bring into his life is sweetness and joy and hope. Jake is overcome with the possibility that maybe he could be happy again! I love that even though Lyndie has challenges too, she is just the opposite of Jake. She has a handicapped adult sister who she has devoted her life to, along with her parents, and she uses Mollie to show Jake the way of trusting God in his life. The entire book flowed so well as it showed the ups and downs of a relationship, a family with a special needs child, someone with PTSD, even the sport of horse racing! I loved every page of this book! There is much to learn about trust and forgiveness and joy and patience. I will be thinking about this book and its characters for months to come! * I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. All the opinions are my own.

    My first Becky Wade book

This was the first Becky Wade book that I have ever read. I really liked the story. She was recommended by Kristan Higgins. I am now on my fifth Becky Wade novel! I am going through all of her back list now. LOL
