  • Fantastic new rejected mate book!

One of my favorite tropes is rejected mates, but there are only so many of them around. The minute I saw this, I JUMPED for it. Was so excited to dive in and I was NOT disappointed. The story opens 10 years after Niko has rejected Zee and she is off, isolated from pack, trying to live without them. Circumstances arise that put them back into contact and from there the story really begins. I love the world created here, and how complex and layered not only this story was, but all the characters were. I loved Zee's brothers and Niko's packmates and can't wait to read more in this series. This book has a lot of angst, but also a lot of steam and was everything I would want in a shifter, rejected mate book. I definitely would add this to the top of your TBR pile and I'm sure this will wind up being a re-read for me in the future! Thank you to NetGalley and the Independent Publishers Group for the Advance Review Copy. I have voluntarily left an honest review.

  • Loved Zee and Niko's story!

When I first read the blurb of this book I was a bit apprehensive because I was not sure if I was going to be able to handle all the angst the heroine was most likely going to go through but because this was Shiloh Walker I knew I had to read it anyway. I am happy to say that I did not witness the scene where Niko cruelly tosses Zee aside, but reading on, tears were still shed and my heart still broke. The story actually starts 10 years later, Zennia Day has been living as an outcast, without a pack and being part wolf, this has been a very painful existence for her. After Niko claimed her and then subsequently cast her out without rescinding his claim she has been without physical contact that is needed by wolves for 10 years. Even though Niko had thought he was the one deceived, Zee was never truly forgotten. When word came that her father was dying, as Prime leader it was his responsibility and obligation to care for and protect all, including those he did not like or respect so he made sure Zee was notified. But the response was not what he had expected and shattered all that he had believed. I was an emotional wreck when we learned all that Zee had endured and is currently enduring in her life. But at the same time I was in such awe of her strength. When Niko finally approaches her to find out the truth, she does not make it easy for him. However broken she sees herself, her inner strength shines through. And we all find out how truly powerful she is. I absolutely adored her! As for Niko, I was on the fence with him. I was a bit lost on exactly why he treated her the way he did. But when he realized not all was as they seemed, the remorse and horror he felt of what he threw away was real. He was willing to do anything to get her back. I do have to say I definitely felt that swoony feeling when he started to show his alpha possessive wolf side! I loved this book so much. Besides the second chance love story between Niko and Zee, there is a great suspense filled storyline that definitely had my attention. There are also some great secondary characters that I would love there to be a story for too! This was a fantastic book and another 5-star read by this author.
