    wonderful romance

A Rogue by Night is book 3 in the Devil’s of Dover series by Kelly Bowen. I have to say that I truly feel that I have uncovered a precious jewel in Ms. Bowen’s writing. She carried me away to another world. I could smell the sea and taste its saltiness on my lips. I could hear the report of a gun and I could feel the cold bite of the bay’s water as the heroine dove into it. Every word is precise and calculated to carry her reader into another world. At times I laughed out loud and then cried my way through this story. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. Bravo Ms Bowen, bravo. I was gifted a copy of this book.

    Great story about unconventional people!

I'm a big Kelley Bowen fan so when I saw this book I had to read it. A Rogue by Night is book 3 in The Devils of Dover series. The series is about an unconventional family consisting of two sisters, their brother, who is not only a Baron but a doctor, and two eccentric aunts. I've read the previous two books and loved them. NOTE: Please go to Kelly's website to learn about her inspiration for this wonderful story. People like these characters really did exist in that time. http://www.kellybowen.net/inspiration.html A Rogue by Night is about the brother, Sir Harland Hayward. A Baron, a doctor and a smuggler. Yes, a smuggler. He is living a double life and none of his family knows about it. After their parents died, the family found themselves in heavy debt and Harland started smuggling to save his family from financial ruin. You also get to meet the intelligent, brave and courageous Katherine Wright. Her family has been smugglers for years and she also assisted them when she was young. Returning to Dover after following a lover into war and saving lives as a surgeon, Katherine finds her family working for a new boss. Her brother is severely injured and can't continue the job they were working on. Katherine has to step back into the shoes of a smuggler, a job she told herself she'd never do again. Katherine and Harland soon cross paths and find themselves working together on a large job. Will Harland reveal his work as a smuggler to Katherine? Will Katherine allow herself to love again? I really enjoyed this book. I love the unconventional, for their time, characters. They understood each other because of this. Him, a member of the peerage and a doctor, not willing to give one up for the other. Her, trying to help her family and convincing people that she, as a woman, could also be a capable surgeon. Harland made Katherine feel like an equal and never demanded more from her than what she could give. My favourite parts of the book was where they both told the other to take what they needed. *swoon* *I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley for an honest review.*

    A tear jerker

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thought and opinions are my own. In a Rogue By Night Kelly Bowen gives us a serious take on life and love. Available for purchase May 28, 2019, I'm not sure the word romance, as we expect, fits this story. Katherine Wright and Dr. Harland Hayward, a.k.a. Baron Strathmore, are both dealing with disappointment, resignation, and PTSD . Both were working in the field during the war Napoleonic wars, tending to wounded and dying soldiers. It left both with horrid memories, bad dreams and a loss of faith in most everything. Both have had awful experiences in the love arena and their walls are most definitely up, and reinforced. Instant attraction becomes hard to fight and ultimately wins the day, this of course begins to break down the emotional walls and allows love into their hearts. How this couple handles the situations they're thrown into is painful and rewarding to observe. Their faith, admiration and trust in each other becomes a testament to the power of love and finding "the one". Ms Bowen has written a powerful story with a troubling journey for our couple. It's definitely worth adding to your Summer reading list. While I was uncomfortable at times during the tale, I'm still glad I read until the lovely ending. Have tissues handy. Happy reading. #KellyBowen #Forever #TheDevilsOfDover #ARogueByNight #NetGalley
