  • Good read

An entertaining instalment in the series. One of the better alternate fantasy series out there.

  • Lovecraftian horror?

This... was really disappointing. There was no suspense and very little action to carry the long boring middle of the book. Time spent in the "villain's" point of view was dull and full of over-the-top evil-for-evil's-sake cliches. And there is far too much time spent on the villain, as it doesn't humanize him so much as make him a caricature. I did not find his ending at all satisfying. Lackey's writing has always been a favorite escape of mine so this was an especially hard let down.

  • A Scandal In Battersea, Mercedes Lackey

A rousing adventure, filled with magic, monsters, a greedy magician, faced only by the plucky heroes of Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters.universe. Since Arrows of the Queen, Lackey has never failed to entertain and enthrall me with her richly coloured environments, wonderfully drawn characters and intriguing stories. Here's anothet. Enjoy!

  • The game's afoot!

I loved this story. Fitting it into the Elemental Masters group of books by way of Watson rather than Holmes was a stroke of genius! And Holmes reaction to "magic" and "psi" rings totally true with his known no nonsense character. I love all of her series. Her characters fit seamlessly into whatever genre she is writing, SF, Fantasy or a mixture of both. Way to go Misty!
