    A Simple Wedding

A Simple Wedding was a lot of fun to read. I loved Jenny and Nick enough to overlook the not-so-tiny lie Jenny had to tell. Jenny was truly stuck between a rock and a hard place with it. Having sworn to keep her super-famous cousin's wedding a secret, she was pretending she was planning her own. Jenny's conflict and debate over telling the town's people that she had come to love the secret, and keeping her promise was very real. Jenny's cousin, Kay, is a famous movie star. And she acted like a lot of the stereotypes that go along with that position. She constantly changed her mind and expected people to just "make it happen," including her cousin. She seemed so detached from reality, and Jenny was too afraid to stand up to her. Jenny's saving grace was the baker from I Do Cakes, Nick. He encouraged her to stand up for what she wanted. Remember he thought it was her wedding. But he also stood by her and helped in so many big and small ways when she needed to make changes to the plan. Apparently, he can also make a mean chocolate cupcake, which is an instant win in my book. I do think the town forgave Jenny and moved on really quickly. I don't want the main character to suffer, but I do think showing consequences that last more than a few minutes is important. Overall, this hits all the highs of a traditional Hallmark Romance. It sounds like this will be an ongoing series. And I really hope that happens. This town and the people in it quickly become your friends, and I need to visit them and see another Heart's Landing wedding. **I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book**

lovely start to a new series

A Simple Wedding, by Leigh Duncan, is available at booksellers on 3-10-20. Simple Wedding is book 1 in Ms Duncan's new Heart's Landing series. Hallmark Publishing has been putting out some good reading material and Simple Wedding is no exception. Only my second taste of Ms Duncan's writing style, I'm hooked. A Country Wedding is one of my favorite books and Simple Wedding is now added to the list. I like the characters, I became engaged in their story line. I felt sorry for them when things were down and celebrated when it all worked out. I'd like to live in Heart's Landing, please. Never thought much about Rhode Island but the descriptions of the scenery make me want to go explore. I love this fictional town and hope Hallmark is smart and commissions the entire series as movies...please. Nick Bell & Jenny Longley are prefect for each other. He bakes and she loves his cupcakes. The instant attraction is almost a character itself. Knowing it was not to be, forbidden, was tough. Nick is determined to be a good guy, and he really is. Jenny is devoted to family and gives up hope of a relationship with Nick for love of her cousin. Two really lovely characters doing the best they can under trying circumstances. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series, A Cottage Wedding, available in June 2020. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Happy reading. #LeighDuncan #ASimpleWedding #Heart'sLanding #Netgalley #HallmarkPublishing #Romance

A Simple Wedding Becomes a Dream Come True

I received an ARC of Leigh Duncan's A Simple Wedding for an honest review. A Simple Wedding was the first book that I have read by Leigh Duncan and I can truly say that I loved the book. It was a wonderful romantic story. The story, the characters and the setting were incredible. Leigh Duncan showed that she is a wonderful storyteller. A Simple Wedding is the story of Jenny Longley, personal assistant and cousin to a Hollywood mega superstar and Nick Bell, owner and baker of I Do Cakes. Jenny's cousin, Karolyn "Kay" Karter just got engaged to her co star Chad Grant and Jenny's next assignment is to arrange a small intimate wedding for Kay and Chad in Heart's Landing, the same location that Jenny dreamed where she would one day get married. The only catch is that Jenny cannot say that she is planning Kay and Chad's wedding, she has to pretend that it is her wedding that she is planning to her fake fiance Tom/Bob Cash. Jenny's parents died in a train wreck when she was a child and her mother's sister Maggie raised her. That is why Jenny feels obligated to do everything, as repayment to Aunt Maggie taking her in and for Kay always being there. Jenny and Nick first meet when Nick literally runs into Jenny as she stares at a horse draw carriage that is passing by covering her with a dozen of cupcakes he needed to deliver. Jenny is the consummate romantic and was dreaming about her own wedding and not Kay's. Jenny goes into the bakery to clean up and offer to pay for the ruined cupcakes. Denise, the counter girl told her it was all taken care of. Nick gives Denise orders that whatever Jenny wants is on the house. Jenny orders a cupcake, and she loves it. She sets up a cake tasting with Denise. Jenny starts to visit I Do Cakes daily for a cupcake and coffee and getting closer to Nick. Nick tells the other wedding merchants in Heart's Landing, that Jenny is a true Heart's Landing bride. So they all want to go out of their way to make all her dreams come true. Meanwhile, Kay is becoming a "Bridezilla". She changes the wedding size from fifty to two hundred fifty, the cake flavor, and the color scheme of the wedding. Jenny blames all the changes on her fiance, Bob and his mother. When Jenny questions Kay's demands, Kay challenges Jenny questioning her about whether or not Heart's Landing can handle her wedding. Jenny knows that the businesses Heart's Landing could not survive the negative from Kay if her wedding is not perfect. Nick falls in love with Jenny, a woman he believes is engaged to another man. The story is filled with bittersweet moments that I so enjoyed. I loved the friendship and romance between Jenny and Nick, how Nick does so many sweet things for Jenny, even though he thinks she can never be his. A surprise plot twist changes everything, and Jenny wonders what will happen to her relationship with her new "family" that she found in Heart's Landing, not to mention her Prince Charming. I loved the happily ever after. It was a perfect romance and I loved every page. The bonus is that there is a recipe for Lemon Bars at the end of the book. They sound delicious!

    Sweet and Feel-Good Read

A Simple Wedding by Leigh Duncan is a sweet, heartfelt, feel-good, romance that is the beginning of a new series. It is everything a “Hallmark Romance” should be. Heart’s Landing is an adorable community and I really think it could be a great setting for many novels to come. When the residents of Hearts Landing get wind of a "True Hearts Landing Bride" in their midst, they are all eager to help her plan her perfect wedding. The only problem, the bride is a fake! I could truly empathize with the Jenny, who is planning her famous actress cousin's wedding and in her role as her personal assistant. Changes frustrate her as do all the vendors, including the local baker, Nick, who becomes her friend and sounding board. As time passes and her feelings for Nick grow, it becomes increasingly hard to keep the bride's true identity a secret. Jenny and Nick had great chemistry were able to handle the curveballs thrown their way on their path to finding each other. I enjoyed the story of Jenny and Nick; loving how Jenny grew throughout the book and stood her ground when it was needed. I enjoyed getting to know the characters in the shops. The town of Hearts Landing sounds so sweet, with streets and businesses with wedding themed names; making it is the perfect town for a dream wedding. Ms. Duncan wrote a sweet, heartfelt, feel-good, romance that should not be missed. This tale abounds with emotions, sexual chemistry, humor, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Daphne and Jonah a chance at love, a family, and forever. I highly recommend A Simple Wedding to other readers and I will be looking forward to reading more books by this author. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

    Great book

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I thought this was the perfect novel to make into the next summer feature film on Hallmark. Poor Jenny is the personal assistant to her famous cousin Kay, and Kay sends her on the impossible mission to plan a simple wedding for an anything but Hollywood Star. As a reader you fall in love with Jenny and just pray that she will tell her new friends from Hearts Landing the truth behind her abrupt change in plans. Kay upsets me so much in this story I feel like she needs to receive a major wake up call that you can’t treat people like she does. Jenny is a much better person than I am to have her as part of her big day. The last chapter and epilogue of this story broke my heart because it was all such a big waste of money and supplies! Good thing it was all On the pages of the book.
