    A Winter Wedding

A Winter Wedding by Brenda Novak takes us back to Whiskey Creek into the lives of a closely knit, unique group of friends. This is Kyle's story. I have always liked Kyle, from the pieces I've seen of him in other Whiskey Creek novels, and felt that he had a lot of depth to him. This shines through in A Winter Wedding! Kyle has definitely had his ups and downs...the love of his life is now married to his step brother, and Kyle himself was briefly married to her sister, Noelle. Now he's dealing with an ex who doesn't want to let him go. Staying in Whiskey Creek is what Kyle wants though, even if it means his chances of finding another woman to love are slim to none. Lourdes is a country music star seeking her muse, finding herself, and looking forward to anonymity while she stays in Whiskey Creek. Through a twist of fate, Lourdes ends up staying in Kyle's house with him instead of the farmhouse she's supposed to be in. Slowly Kyle and Lourdes become closer, even if a future together is impossible. Because Lourdes is not staying in Whiskey Creek and Kyle is not leaving...but does it have to be that black and white? I enjoyed getting to know Kyle and Lourdes, especially Kyle separately from the group of friends that this series revolves around. They are all so unique. I felt like Lourdes and Kyle were good for each other and that Whiskey Creek was good for Lourdes because it shows her a whole different side of life. One that she likes. I really hoped she could find a way to stay part of this place and with Kyle. As we take the journey of Kyle and Lourdes becoming closer than either of them expected, Kyle's ex wife Noelle is a significant secondary character through out A Winter Wedding. She is an interesting character and I wonder if she has some underlying psychological issues. Brenda writes this character very well, and through this Noelle even had me believing her at times. It was sad to see her unravel through the book, and I hope to find out more about her in future Whiskey Creek books. As easy as she was to dislike, I found myself really hoping she would get some help. We see and hear about characters from other Whiskey Creek books in A Winter Wedding, and I liked this carry forward, even if it is on the periphery. I would recommend reading the other Whiskey Creek novels if you want to get a good grasp of all the characters and their backgrounds. There is a lot going on in A Winter Wedding, but Brenda works it all together very well, and it plays like real life. A Winter Wedding makes you believe in love, despite all the bumps in the road, and I'd recommend it to any romance reader.

    Amazing

Amazing!! So glad Kyle finally found a little peace and happiness. I'm of huge fan of Ms. Novak's and the Whiskey Creek series, so I've been patiently waiting for Kyle's story. As others in their group have found love and happiness, Kyle has silently lamented his past mistakes and dealt with life one day at a time. Love and happiness just don't seem to be in the cards for him. That is until Lourdes Bennett blows into his life. She's only planning to be in Whiskey Creek for a short time while she writes some new songs that will get her career back on track. Whiskey Creek and Kyle seem to have a way of getting under your skin though and before she knows it Lourdes is questioning her decision to leave. As usual, this is a wonderfully written story full of twists and turns. These characters get in your heart so when they finally find happiness you can feel the joy! I definitely recommend this one.

A Winter Wedding by Brenda Novak

A Winter Wedding by Brenda Novak I love contemporary romance and Brenda Novak does it exceptionally well. This is Kyle's story. In this small town, there are dozens of friends that hang out, support each other, and stay as part of each other's lives. That may not always be comfortable or easy, as is the case here with Noelle. She and Kyle are divorced and have been for years, yet he still helps her out, gives her money, and is generally nice because in a distant way, she's family. But she's mean. And obsessed. And we hope she gets caught when she does bad things! Crowd scenes can be a bit confusing if previous books have not been read but mostly don't have an impact on the story as a whole. If you have read previous books, it's a little visit with old friends. Lourdes Bennett has some tough decisions to make. She believes her boyfriend is cheating on her. Since he is also her manager, that's make for a life changing event. Kyle Houseman rents out a few houses he owns as investment. He knows who Lourdes is when she signs the lease but doesn't think much of it. Until the furnace at the rental doesn't work and she ends up living in his house where temporary turns into something more. Which Noelle doesn't like one bit. Excerpt: "Or maybe it was just that Kyle was so comfortable in his own skin. Has she ever met a man more self-assured? She'd seen plenty of arrogance in her line of work. And vanity. The vanity was worse than the arrogance. But Kyle was different. He seemed at peace with who and what he was, and she admired his quiet strength, even though she didn't know him very well. He was the calm at the center of the storm, she thought." Excerpt from The Winter Wedding by Brenda Novak I received a copy of this book from the author.

    Love this series!

I have been looking for Kyle to finally get his happy ending. When we met him in When We Touch I didn’t like him much, although I guess we weren’t really supposed to. At that point, he’d slept with that heroine’s sister and gotten her pregnant, which ruined not only his relationship with the heroine but cemented a big rift between the sisters. So he wasn’t exactly the good guy in that story :) But as we got to know this group of friends over the next few books, we also got a better understanding of Kyle and how much that mistake impacted his life. Now it is finally his chance for a HEA. I love how fluid this story is – nothing about it is big or dramatic or that surprising. He meets Lourdes and the two spend time together, realize they are attracted to one another but that their lives don’t exactly mesh. We get to know them as they get to know each other and we’re right there with them as they fall in love. It’s sweet and true to life (as much as it can be with a country music star :) ). We do get some trouble with Kyle’s ex, which spices things up but also helps to wrap up that relationship and leave him clear for a future with someone else. Kyle and Lourdes just have to figure out if their’s is that future and if so how to make it work for both of them.

Some of the best ones happen quickly!

I have NEVER been disappointed by author Brenda Novak. Whiskey Creek is a nice quaint little town with some pretty amazing people living there. This tight knit group of friends are always there for each other and though they all have their ups and downs, their bonds are solid. A Winter Wedding is Kyle and Lourdes's story. A real, attracted-at-first-sight and love-followed-quickly, kind of story. But sometimes love isn't enough. Many more things than the heart must mesh to truly make love work. This is another beautiful Whiskey Creek love story as only Brenda Novak can write. A quick love but some of the great ones are. I was on pins and needles wondering which stunt Noelle would pull next. The psycho ex makes for amazing suspense! This is a fantastic story with great story line progression and even greater characters. I can't wait for another visit to Whiskey Creek. Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.
