Hopes, dreams, desires, and regrets …

This is a steamy small town romance that’s very well written and full of hopes, dreams, desires, and regrets. There’s plenty of drama, angst, heartaches and heartbreaks made all the more interesting with likable, well-defined characters. Casey is struggling to heal her broken heart, when she meets Ben who’s eight years her junior. They have an immediate and intense attraction. As the seasons move along, Casey is once more on her own, heartbroken again and uncertain where her life is headed and whether Ben has any part in it. While I liked this story, I was frustrated at times by the behaviour of both Casey and Ben. Ben was either indecisive, or gave up too easily, or couldn’t commit. Casey allowed her insecurities to rule her life and was often self-sabotaging. I enjoyed Casey’s relationships with Lee and Geller though as they brought many light hearted moments to the story. Easy read

Ladies, can it get any better than a man who not only knows his way around the kitchen, but around...other rooms as well? *wink wink* After having her heart broken by her boyfriend of 7 or so years, Casey left the city to settle in Bonnet, where she helps manage a campground. Insert Ben, a younger, attractive man who's there with some friends. Thus, their fling is born! While I definitely enjoyed the book, it was a bit slow-paced, especially in the middle. Furthermore, Ben needed to have more backbone, especially where his family is concerned and Casey needed to have more self-confidence. I didn't expect her to be 100% confident after that nasty breakup and subsequent rebuilding of her life, but yeesh! At moments, it was really hard to connect with her because of that. Some parts of the story also felt rushed, such as when the author talks about Casey's painting and sketching. It all makes sense later on in the book, but not in the beginning. However, the author does have a way of describing scenes that allow you to imagine them in detail, right down to the details. Overall, the characters need a bit of work, but it was enjoyable! 3.5 stars rounded up

3.5 stars rounded up. 34 year old Casey left Brooklyn after boyfriend of 7 years broke her heart. Now she lives in the small town of Bonnet, and she's been alone ever since. Not alone as in no one in her life, but no one to love her the way she secretly yearns for. One day 26 year old Ben shows up at the campground she helps the Gellers run, and she finds herself attracted to the younger guy. When he shows up to her small cabin and they indulge in a hot encounter, suddenly she's wondering what she's doing with this much younger man who seems at a crossroads in his life, set to return to culinary school and finish his degree, or open up his own cafe as he really wants. I was internally cringing when they started their affair because it was patently obvious that Ben was not so much immature, but so uncertain and indecisive, and at such a different place in his life than Casey. Although I found their chemistry to be pretty hot, I doubted the durability of whatever they were; and when it became obvious that Ben was going to hurt her as I suspected he would, I really wondered how they would ever make it. I liked Above All, but I did find it a little slow moving, especially in the middle. They weren't together as a couple for very long, to the detriment of the story. I liked both characters, and the secondary characters; but I would have appreciated a stronger connection between the two, and them together as a couple for more than perhaps the last chapter.
