Outstanding start to a new series

I have not had the pleasure of reading anything by this author. As a reader and reviewer I was pleased with this author and her writing style of giving her readers a very entertaining read. I got lost from the first few pages and could not put this down. One lady is on the marriage market for a husband her parents have pick one man she has picked another only the other hasn’t asked for her hand. A man who has loved deeply and lost promises never to love again, when he is put in a place of honor he offers to marry the lady but he will never love her. Can these two come together not only build a marriage but a love of a life time. Both have much to learn about love, happiness and marriage. Adeline parent want her to marry the awful Edmond, she has no desire to after he overstepped his self. She wants to marry Mr. Artwood but he doesn’t seem to be in the same mind as she. Leaving little choice to find her own husband who must be a Lord or marry the abusive earl. I am sure you guessed which one way she went. Things didn’t go as easy as she has planned. Instead of going in the man’s room she wanted she accidentally ended up in the duke of Wolverton room and his bed. You can imagine how shock they both were. With the scandal breaking out she thinks she is ruined Edmond the duke of Wolverton who they say is a mad man comes forward offering to marry her. She has little choice but to take him up on his offer. This is where things get really interesting. Edmond needs a wife who will be a mother to his daughters. He will not give a part of his self to anther women after losing the love of his life in child birth but he will do his best to give his daughters the best mother he can find. Things do not go as he plans he thinks she will jump at the chance but the lady has other plans. You will have to read to find out just how things will go when two people who are very attracted to each other are in the danger of falling down the path of passionate and love. I thought this was very well written with wonderful characters you can relate to in a time when things were not easy and one must play by the rules of society or face ruination never to be able to face those who judge you. Poor Edmond is a man after your heart he has lost so much in return has lost his self. He has so much to give if he would only open his self up and let someone warm his heart. Adel has a way about her that opens a person up giving them meaning and a reason to wake up each morning. Adel is my hero for standing her ground not giving in to her parents and their demands but going for what she wanted even if that was what she truly didn’t know she wanted. When things do not go as planned she takes that in stride and goes toward making the best of it but still standing up to her dreams. The author gives you a well balanced story full of passion, pain, sorrow, dreams, wants and needs. You have some very heated steamy scenes full of sexual tension, the chemistry is powerful and strong. This was a delightful read from start to finish giving the read everything a true romance has to offer. You will not be disappointed as this author takes you away making you wish you could be part of the story. I hope you pick this up and give it a read. I am sure you will be as impressed as I was by this author.

    Delightful

This was a wonderful read. I was captivated from the beginning and I read this book in one go, it was that good. I truly enjoyed Edmond and Adel, and the development of their relationship was well done. I loved the duke's children and the fact they were actually featured in the story.

    Absolutely splendid!

Miss Adeline Hays, Adel, will not marry the vile Earl of Vale. Even when she told her father the Earl had brutalised her, he vehemently maintains she must marry Vale. Adel has decided that marrying her friend James Atwood is a much better option than the old depraved noble. She has concocted a scheme with a friend to go to James’ room, while they are attending a ball at the Gladstones, and get them “slightly compromised” so that her father will have no choice but to have her marry James. Adel’s father has refused James’ proposals several times, but James has no idea of Adel’s plans. Meanwhile, Edmond Rochester, the Duke of Wolverton arrives at the same ball; the “mad duke” is rumoured to have killed his wife a few years ago, gossip precedes him, but he doesn’t really care since his wife and son died. He’s left with his two daughters: Sarah and Rosa; he lives in his Hampshire estate, in the country, which he much prefers to London. He does not want to marry for love again, once was enough, but his daughters are becoming difficult; they need a woman’s influence, a mother. So at the party, Adel after imbibing a bit too much liquid courage, sneaks into what she believes is James’ room. Edmond wakes up to a warm female form, and this is the start of this wonderful story as Adel and Edmond must marry. Often, this type of mistaken identity is cute, and is merely the set-up for what is to come; it serves little purpose other than getting our couple together, but in ACCIDENTALLY COMPROMISING THE DUKE, it is far from the case. With this incident, we really get the feel of who are Adel and Edmond. Adel’s failed scheme gives way to delicious sensuality, the revelation of a betrayal, her consternation – and ours – at possible ruin, and how truly honourable Edmond is. I had barely begun the book that I wanted to read it all right away, and life kept interfering. ACCIDENTALLY COMPROMISING THE DUKE is engrossing right from the very first pages, and my heart broke for Adel, at the unfairness of her situation, the lack of support from her family; she really is in a pickle, even before her mishap. The writing is truly sublime, Ms. Reid seemingly with only a few words so easily conveys the emotional state of Adel. Adel comes off as convincingly slightly unconventional, and I was truly charmed at how the relationship evolved. Adel is resigned to her sorry state but she is a strong woman, she deals with her situation as best as she can, but she holds her own, and her growing attraction to Edmond is much complicated by his attitude. ACCIDENTALLY COMPROMISING THE DUKE is truly splendid, the characters are very complex, and the story holds many surprises. A superb story that was so, so much more than I expected! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    I can't wait for more

I have to admit that it took what felt like 5 minutes to get thru this story – I just couldn’t put it down and it was such an addictive read, so smooth. We start off with Adel's dilemma and with the help of a friend she plots to get a different husband, one of her choice. Unfortunately her plotting doesn't go quite the way she wants. Enter the Mad Duke. He's in search of a wife, one that he won't love like he did his first wife. Which brings him to the same house party as Adel, to ask for the hand of her friend ... who doesn't want to marry him. Yeah, this is going to turn out just fine. As expected, Adel does get herself a different husband, just not the one she anticipated. Even with the bad start, Adel and Edmond develop a fantastic relationship. Unfortunately he’s got some troubles left over from his first marriage and the death of his wife. It’s good that Adel is intelligent and kind hearted because she’s going to need every bit of it to handle him as he works through his fears. Reid does a fantastic job of describing how he ended up in this spot and why he feels the way he does. She’s deft enough to do it and take us along for every enjoyable (and sometimes heartbreaking) moment. If the first book in the series is this good, I can't wait for the rest! Excellent read!

This was a great book! I am new to Stacy Reid and love the story. A historical romance at its best with every emotion to scoop you into a world of love, betrayal, heartache, happiness and all the rest. It drew me in from the very beginning. I am now curious about the dukes best friend and lady Evelyn. There is no cliffhanger and not necessary to read the next book, but I really want to know their story. So.... I'm on to the next one, Wicked in His Arms.
