    Thanks for your feedback!

    Highly recommended

This novel was so aptly named as you definitely felt the Ache while reading. It was a gut-wrenching story that will evoke a range of emotion from you. The story sucks you in from the start and won't let you go until the end. Yes it a story that tackles a difficult subject matter but its also a story that needs to be told. Its a story of survival, about love, hope and healing. Its also a story that reminds us all to look around and pay attention....someone might be in need of help. This was my first SM Soto novel and it definitely left a lasting impression. Worthy of more than 5 stars this thought-provoking novel was a phenomenal read and I would highly recommend it to everyone as it delivers a very powerful message.

    an emotional journey

Ache has to be one of the most heartbreaking, yet best books that I have ever read. It has taken me a few days to sit down and write this review because I kept thinking about the book and not sure where to even begin. This is a story of the ultimate star-crossed lovers that spans over 9 years. It is a second chance romance and you will feel your heart break many times over and then have it mended together. Liam and Bea met when she was just 13 years-old and the connection between them was nearly instantaneous. Over 3 years, a deep love developed between them and it never wavered even after they both broke each other’s hearts. Liam is sweet and romantic. He cares and loves Bea so much. What Bea went through was absolutely devastating and heart wrenching, but she is a strong survivor. The author tackles very deep subject matter with respect and sensitivity. At times, it was hard to read and I couldn’t stop crying, but I also knew there was hope. Ache is told from Liam’s and Bea’s POV which I think was perfect for this book. You could actually feel what they each were going through and the gravitational pull between them. The story goes back and forth between the past and present. I would have liked to have read more about the first 3 years of their relationship - to see more how they fell for each other and to feel more of that bond between them. There was a character that I loathed with every part of my being and characters that I wanted to knock some sense into as I wondered how could they not see what was happening right in front of them, but I loved Myrah. I like how the author didn’t gloss over things. She was raw and honest. Ache does end in a HEA with no cliffhanger. I received this book for free.

    Poetic, raw, and inspiring

Ache is the first book I have read by SM Soto and guarantee that it’s not my last! I actually signed up for the book because I fell for the cover and it said, Second Chance Romance. That was it, I didn’t even read the whole synopsis. I had no idea it was going to be such a page-turner. Six years. It had been six years since they were in the same town. Their love was fierce, sweet, and it was supposed to last forever. That was until hearts were broken. Liam thought when he finally had the courage to go back to Lakeport that he would find her happy. His cousin, Bea’s best friend, Myrah did not prepare him. Bea was a shell of a woman he loved. She wore baggy clothes. Her skin was pale. She was skittish, she was anything but happy. She was still beautiful and always would be but she was like a zombie. He didn’t know what happened to the girl that was once vibrant and full of life. It was his mission to find out. Did their breakup really hurt her this much? Bea couldn’t believe Liam was here. She should be happy but she was also scared. She was scared since he could always see right through her. He didn’t know it but everything changed the day he left. She knew she wasn’t herself maybe it was time to find her again. I can’t really get into their story without spoiling too much. I will say to read the trigger warning. Also, this isn’t the easiest book to read but it’s worth it. I couldn’t put the book down once I started it. I loved the characters. Most of them anyway. Bea is strong, beautiful, sweet, and a badass. Liam is swoon-worthy, delicious, and protective. Overall...I loved the fight in this one. It was also poetic, raw, and inspiring. Like I said, it’s not an easy book to read but it was a story that needed to be told. P.S. I live in Northern California and have been to Larkport many times. I even went to the bar mentioned in the book! That was pretty cool. Quotes: Liam wasn’t your average boy…oh no, there was nothing boyish about him. As my gaze travels up and down Myrah’s cousin, I know without a shadow of a doubt, he’s trouble—wrapped in one beautiful package. “Whenever I’m around you, this is what you do to me. You make it hard to breathe. You make me smile. And on days like these, you make my heart skip a beat.” “Talk to me, Bea. What’s going on?” “I can’t,” she says, shaking her head back and forth. “I’m ruined, Liam.”

An outstanding example of heartfelt storytelling

Ache is a soul obliterating, emotional journey of hope overcoming pain, and the power of first love. My heart shattered along with Bea, it cried for the pain of these two lonely souls, and eventually it sewed itself back together. I am so so in love with these two, Liam is such a steady, calming presence, and seeing him help Bea return to her fierce and fearless self was a beauty beyond words and a hope that transcends a pattern of letters, no matter how poetic the pattern of letters certainly was. I cried with sadness, I cried with grief of what was taken from Bea, and, later, I cried with such an overwhelming happiness. S.M. Soto has brought such a gift into my life with this book and I feel such a unique and powerful gratitude towards her, the kind that can only happen between an author and a reader. Thank you, S.M. Soto, for finding beauty in the broken.
