    Addicted to the Duke

I read a few of books of Bronwen's but this one really got to me. I liked this story but it is for mature readers. You will learn about opium and laudanum. It was always used but didn't know how dangerous it was. Alex, a Duke, was captured by a Turk for 2 years. He escaped but went back to ransom Hestia. He got her out but it reminded him of how he was treated before. She always loved him. Alex does not think he is a good person. Hestia is told that her father died and had to be buried. She knows he isn't but his heir, Frederick, wants to marry her for her dowry as Frederick only got the Estates. No Money! They sail to Greece for safety. How long will that last. Alex's friend, David, the doctor on aboard and wants to marry her. It turns to deep problems to the end of this book. I hope you will choose this story to read. Don't let it get away! You won't regret it! I volunteered to read and review this book.

    Dark Subject Tastefully Written

Loved the premises of the "damaged" hero's. This story delves into a more serious subject than I normally read about. I guess I had never thought about how addicting some of the "medicines" were that were used back then. Thank you for exploring this trope in a new way with a damaged hero. The way Alex was damaged without the graphic images was tastefully written. It made me love Hestia even more with how she never wavered even after she found out what was done to Alex. Loved the ending and can't wait for Stephen's story next! I was given this book for an honest review on NetGalley.

They find betrayal, heartache and love.

Alex is a dark character, but I really like him. He was held captive by a pirate for two years and became addicted to opium. Hestia had to be rescued by Alex when she was 16. She was kidnapped and was being sold to the same pirate that held Alex captive. Now, four years later, she needs Alex's help once again. He has been avoiding her because he knows if he is near her, he would want to keep her for his own. Hestia has gotten word that her father is dead. She knows this isn't true, but his heir is trying to take over everything, including her. She must find her father and save her father's estate and herself. She and Alex come up with a plan. While searching for her father, Hestia and Alex find betrayal, heartache and love.

    Somewhat dark but highly engaging

A terrible past haunts Alex and he must face his demons when he rescues Hestia. She knows her heart belongs to Alex, but it takes a lot of faith, patience, and strength to help him find his way to his own heart. Alex is a very tortured soul, physically and emotionally, and I wanted to help him see the light. Hestia is young and honest, but learns and accepts the bad in the world, and I applauded her strength. I highly recommend this story and give a mild warning about the dark aspects of this story. It kept me reading whenever I could. I enjoy Ms. Evans stories, and look forward to more in this series. I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

    Addictive

A few years ago Alexander Bracken, now the Duke of Bedford rescued a young girl from a man he knew all too well . Now she needs his help again. Can he return to face the darkness of his past ? Lady Hestia Cary is used to life without her father, the Earl of Pembroke, but when her distant cousin declares the Earl dead and himself the heir Hestia knows she is in trouble. Our hero is a recovering addict forced to take a hard look at himself and how he is dealing with the past. The islands in the Mediterranean hold lots of danger and extremely unpleasant memories. Our heroine knows how dangerous the Mediterranean can be, but England could be just as bad for her. There is only one man she can turn to. A difficult and emotional journey for our characters. You can't help but feel for them, even if you want to tell the hero to get his head out of his butt. A story that will catch your attention straight away and keep it all the way through. A thoroughly enjoyable story.
