Psychological Sci-Fi Mystery that Kept Me Guessing

I read Planetfall before this book, and I found I preferred that book more. The world that the author has built for this series is very interesting and well-crafted, and I do think you could start with either Book 1 (Planetfall) or Book 2 (After Atlas) and follow along. Both books had events that took me by surprise, and I feel this author's strength lies in exploring the psychology of her characters and putting them in challenging situations to make important life choices. The characters in Planetfall, and specifically their relationships, felt deeper, more complex, and more realistic. But this is just my personal experience. The audiobook version of this book, which I also listened too partially, is well done too.
