    Won me over!

Wow! Wasn't sure of the trope, but Sophie won me over! Briar Davis is a nurse who has volunteered to assist in the med clinic at the local prison. Her sister warned her that it could be dangerous and she has to admit that feeling nervous is an understatement especially when one particular inmate is brought in after a fight. Knox Callaghan is everything her sister warned her about, and yet Briar can’t keep her eyes off him. Knox Callaghan just wants to finish out his sentence, keep himself and his brother alive until then, and if it means a few broken ribs and another stint in the hole, so be it. He didn’t expect a sweet innocent nurse who smells of peaches to derail it all. When he finds out that a couple of the inmates are determined to hijack the med clinic and have their go at the sweet new meat as they refer to Briar, he deliberately gets injured to get into the mix before it’s too late. It also wins him his freedom and when he meets up with Nurse Davis on the outside, his libido and hers pulls them together in a magnetic, addicting way that derails both of them. Knox Callaghan is hot, hot, hot but honestly, there were times I wanted to kick him in the backside and tell him to get his act together. Fortunately, someone does that later so I feel better. Then there’s Briar Davis and well, I wanted to put extra locks on her door and tell her to get a life but in the end, I was happy. Once these two were together, they simply burned up the pages and kept me glued to them. All of the characters were substantial and well created, although there were times when I found the writing a bit lacking…a lot of he did this, and he did that…she did this, and she did that…but honestly, the heat melted away my editorial objections. I do like the way that Sophie introduced a teaser for the next book…no, I’m not saying a word. This is one you’ll have to read and experience yourselves. And in saying that…I highly recommend ALL CHAINED UP by Sophie Jordan and don’t say…convicts, no way…try it, you might just like it. There’s something to be said for a rough and tough Alpha Male who has interesting ideas about what to do with ice cream. ***Purchased a copy for my own personal reading but sharing my honest and unscripted review.

    sexy and action packed story!

I really enjoyed this story! Knox avenged an assault on his cousin, and when things went too far, he and his younger brother North ended up in prison for manslaughter. For 8 long years they've had each other's backs, and been under the protection of the ruling internal gang leader, Reid, without whom they'd never have survived. Knox's sudden probation leaves him out in the world again (with his brother still locked up) and having to adjust to everything that means after years of being strong and in control all the time. He has a parole officer checking on him regularly, rules to follow, and a job bartending at his uncle's biker bar. Knox is determined never to go back to jail, and will do anything he needs to do to stay out of trouble. Knox's character is that of a bad boy with a good heart, even if that heart is pretty scarred. He struggles with the idea of having a normal relationship. Indeed, the idea of an actual future with a woman is something he stopped thinking about once in jail, his focus solely on day to day survival. Now that's he's free, it's something he begins to contemplate as he and Briar reconnect outside the prison. Briar has had her own share of trouble, including an abusive ex boyfriend and a rocky relationship with her mother, who never left her abusive husband (Briar's dad). She and her sister are on good terms, though her sister worried about her being in danger working at the prison - a worry that turned out to be well founded when Briar was attacked there, though Briar didn't share that news. She's shocked at herself though for being attracted to Knox who is clearly off limits while at the prison, and part of her worries that, like her mother, she is attracted to violent men. When he saves her from being assaulted she realizes that her assumptions about him were all wrong. And when they meet again on the outside, there is no reason not to act on that attraction. She trusts Knox, and this leads to several steamy scenes between them. Briar is sweet but feisty, and in her arms Knox finds those humane pieces of himself that he's had to hide for so long. I loved the two of them together, and how Knox is able to finally let down his guard and expose his feelings to Briar. The story moves at a swift pace, with a very interesting look at Knox's life inside the prison in the first part of the story, as well as his re-adjustment to the outside world. Action scenes to go along with the sexy romance make for a compelling read. As well, contrary to the usual setup, there is a chapter in the latter part of the story (but not at the end) that sets up the plot for the next story with a hostage situation that will ensure readers want to pick up the next book to see how it all turns out. No worries though, Knox and Briar get their happy ending in this one. 4.5 stars for this exciting and sexy read!

    A High-Octane Sizzler

3.5 Stars | Hot Steam As a long-time fan of Sophie Jordan’s sensational romances, I couldn’t wait to try the oh-so-tempting first novel in her upcoming Devil’s Rock series, ALL CHAINED UP. Though not as forbidden or illicit as I’d initially expected, but just as entertaining and provocative as I’d hoped it’d be, I devoured this high-octane sizzler of a story over two days, always eager to get back to it whenever life would pull me away. Darker, dirtier and exponentially sexier than anything Jordan has written previously, Briar and Knox’s edgy, intense, emotional and deliciously steamy affair delivers a white-hot, criminal-themed contemporary that thrills without being overly disturbing, gory or gratuitously violent. While the beginning of ALL CHAINED UP is purposefully tense, turbulent and unsettling, including various fights between inmates, moderate police brutality and a scene of near sexual assault, the majority of the novel is more contemporary than criminal, taking place after Knox’s release from prison. On the outside, this blazing couple’s enthralling tale swiftly shifts from nail-biting action to toe-curling passion so wonderfully naughty, rough, raw and appealingly reminiscent of the fabulously filthy sort of lawbreaker lovemaking you might have seen and salivated over on popular shows like Sons of Anarchy or Banshee. And, while wicked, pent-up, ex-con-epically-hot sex is prevalent in ALL CHAINED UP, romance is central and abundant too. I enjoyed reading Briar and Knox’s fragile and uncertain love grow into something fierce, undeniable and life affirming. Their bond is resilient, powerful and forever, and I was elated when they finally got it right—and then GOT IT ON, AGAIN! I had so much heated fun reading ALL CHAINED UP and can hardly wait until Reid and Grace’s story, HELL BREAKS LOOSE releases this June! That auspicious title alone has got my pulse racing with anticipation! Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

Another hit from the talented Sophie Jordan!

Welcome to Devil’s Rock Penitentiary. Where the inmates are lethal and falling in love could be deadly. The eight years Knox Callaghan has been an inmate at “The Rock” have hardened him. Everyday is a battle of survival for Knox and his younger brother against abusive guards and deadly inmates. At night he wrestles with crushing guilt for dragging his brother down the path to prison. Knox just wants to keep his head down and his nose clean so he can get released from this hell hole. He didn’t count on pretty and proper Nurse Briar Davis walking into his life and complicating things. In order to secure a promotion at her job, Briar Davis reluctantly agrees to volunteer at the town’s prison putting her nursing skills to good use. Briar doesn’t do danger or excitement as she prefers her life to be safe and orderly. She knew volunteering at Devil’s Rock would be dangerous, but she had no idea how much until she found herself victim of a vicious attack. Knox risks his life to save Briar and in doing so, forges an unbreakable bond with the beautiful nurse. Once he’s paroled for his heroics and see’s Briar on the outside, the sparks fly. Knox and Briar find their forbidden attraction impossible to resist. As long as it’s just sex Knox is willing to oblige, but once feelings get involved he does his best to push Briar away. She deserves so much more than being with a convicted felon. Too bad Briar doesn’t agree. Full of fast paced action and sizzling passion, All Chained Up by the talented Sophie Jordan is a fantastic start to a great new series.

Sophie Jordan at her absolute best!

Sophie Jordan completely blew me away with ALL CHAINED UP! Ms. Jordan is one of my favourite authors, and ALL CHAINED UP is as far from her delicate historical fiction as it can get, and at least as fabulous! Briar Davis, in hope of advancing her nursing career accompanies her boss, who is filling in for the recently retired doctor who takes care of the prisoners at Devil’s Rock penitentiary. One particular inmate, Knox Callaghan, makes a lasting impression on Briar in more ways than one: he seems extremely dangerous, and yet she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him. And Knox cannot deny the attraction he feels for the pretty nurse. He has been in prison for eight years, along with his brother North, and when an unfortunate incident happens at the prison, he demonstrates what sort of man he is. This is Sophie Jordan at her very best, and showing a side we’ve never seen before. ALL CHAINED UP so exciting, I had to restrain myself in order not to fangirl all over the place while writing this review. From the very first words, I was completely immersed in the book, and feeling the rush of adrenaline as I read. I must say I’m a bit surprised at how well the romance worked out, given that the hero is a convict, but trust Sophie Jordan to make everything entirely plausible: there is not one little thing that is out of place, nothing is contrived or over the top. ALL CHAINED UP feels like the real deal, devoid of clichés and warmed-over drivel. The characters are especially well-drawn, the romance absolutely believable; I really cared for those characters, and not only Knox and Briar. The writing is perfectly suited to the style, the dialogues are spot-on, the story is superb, and the sex scenes are sizzling. ALL CHAINED UP and Devil's Rock is as exciting as it gets! Sophie Jordan has given us another proof of her extraordinary versatility: ALL CHAINED UP is the first instalment in her new series Devil's Rock, which has all the makings of a huge hit! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
