    All Is Excellence!

A wonderful look at how Lizzie goes from being a teenager who just "wishes everybody was dead" to missing her family, and the quest, in a post-apocalyptic America, of finding a unique and new type of family - in particularly someone she hasn't seen for well over a decade and thought was dead. Suspenseful, touching, thought-provoking. A great first novel, that I quite enjoyed. The fact that the author conjured up elements from George R. Stewart's EARTH ABIDES (one of my favourite classic novels) was an incredible bonus for me.

    Best near-future pandemic sci-fi

I couldn't put this book down . . . All Is Silence is the best character-driven, near-future sci-fi available today. Slater's young protagonist is a perfect blend of angst and heart. Even the minor characters are so vividly drawn, I'm sure I've walked past them on the streets of Bellingham. A riveting, easy read. Slater’s vision of what the Northwest would look like in the face of a pandemic is uncanny. It was chilling to read about familiar places emptied by plague. All Is Silence reminded me of The Stand by Stephen King, but is less of a horror and more of an adventure, written for young adults. However, as an “old” adult, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it in about two days, unable to put it down. Whether from the tension caused by the main character’s issues, or by the very real dangers posed by a post-apocalyptic, lawless America, there was never a dull moment. The plot was never predictable, and I think that was in large part because Lizzie, the main character, was not predictable, to the reader or the other characters, which provided a high amount of tension. If you like near-future scenarios, live in the Northwest, or just like a good story, you should read All Is Silence. I can't wait for the next installment!

A post-apocalyptic world of horror and hope!

In a world of constant noise and busy lives, it is horrifying to think it could be silenced by a mysterious virus. Radios, TV's, cell phones and social media still exist, but they are on repeat, and it appears no one has survived to answer calls or Facebook updates. Until survivors begin to emerge, one-by-one. This is a fast-paced adventure of survival and a journey in search of hope when all appears lost. Robert L. Slater breathes life into his characters as they face a post-apocalyptic world of unforgettable trauma and horror. If your morbid curiosity and thrill-seeking spirit needs to be satiated, be sure to check out this novel. I am eager for book two :-D
