    Biography of Rock Hudson

This biography of the actor is looking at his life through today's lens. The book is mostly based on reliable, first-person accounts of his life as well as his interviews. The book is tedious in parts and very interesting in others. It is not a 'smooth' read. The book is quite long as it is very complete. Just about anything you want to know about the man is in this biography. There are some great pictures, although I did not care for the author's interpretation of them. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood 50-70 years ago

All That Heaven Allows: A Biography of Rock Hudson by Mark Griffin is a detailed , comprehensive , layered and well researched of once upon a time in Hollywood of 50-70 years ago and how Roy Fitzgerald a 22 years old from Winnetka, Illinois, became Rock Hudson the icon , the movie star , the lover , the face of Aids and so many more roles for millions of people around the world. I enjoyed reading this biography . In a time when we have the Me Too movement and all more and more people are openly talking about discrimination and abuse ; reading Rock Hudson is a reminder that you really do not know , what is going on in someone's life and heart , unless you are in their shoes. Invasive , sad , long 400 pages , charming , tragic , informative , and real describe this book . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    Remembering Rock Hudson

I grew up watching Rock Hudson’s movies and television, and I absolutely loved him in all of it. Aside from his good looks, his entire demeanor in many of my favorites gave off fun-loving vibes that made almost everyone love him. Learning his “secret” made no difference to me. He was such a good actor and made me laugh. I could not to this day pick my favorite movie – I loved every one of them. So reading this biography was too tempting to pass up. Rock Hudson will always be a hero to me. How someone who was so wonderful could have such a difficult history broke my heart. I wanted to know more! And he is still my hero and I’ll never forget him. Rather than re-hash all that you’ll read about Rock Hudson in this book, I will just comment that the author has written a comprehensive biography of both Rock Hudson's personal life and career. I was glad to have the opportunity to read about him like this. It brought back many good memories for me.

    Rock Hudson

For the record, I received an Advanced Review Copy (ARC) of this book with the request that I leave a voluntary honest review for other potential readers. That having been said, here is my honest opinion and review of this book. While the subject matter is excellent and treated with great care for a narrative that is fascinating, entertaining and easy to read, the formatting of the pdf version of the book was quite problematic. Periodically, a certain page would suddenly keep showing up and replacing a part of the narrative. You would finish reading a page in the middle of a sentence, change the page and be on the reoccurring page, change the page again and be on a completely different subject than you were reading. This certainly is very irritating but I am giving the book four stars for the detail and narrative of Rock Hudson's life. The subject of the biography is something that I appreciate a great deal. I have always found biographies to be fascinating especially for a person that I admire greatly. Even with the distractions, the narrative of Rock Hudson's life was well worth the time it takes to read it. My hope is that the author or publisher will correct this problem before the book goes on sale to the general public. Perhaps an epub version for those of us who do not use Kindles for reading.
