  • A sweet, feelgood story!

Loved this book with it's smart, normal, family-oriented characters, who are all trying their best with whatever the day throws at them. There's romance, there's friendships, family and life's curveballs. Highly recommend for a read before the holidays!

  • A not much of this or that book

This novel has a good setup and an interesting plot. It has some drama, but not much drama. It has a little romance, but not much romance. It develops a little tension between characters, but not much tension. There's some character development, but no that much character development. It tries to portray an attraction between the main characters, but there's none; they keep going behind closed doors to play canasta, for all the reader knows. There's certainly nothing like adult passion. It has a cute kid, that's an actual cute kid, and probably the best part of the novel. I'm glad I got this book as part of a BookBub freebie promotion. That caused me to give it the benefit of the doubt and call it OK. It is too good to be bad and too disappointing to be liked. I think this book would be an excellent selection for those folks who go to bed alone and have to read a page or three before they can fall asleep. If the cover and blurb were honest, I wouldn't have downloaded this free book. The title calls the novel "Heartwarming" but it failed to warm up any part of my anatomy. The main illustration shows our fmc lightly caressing the side of the mmc's neck while lightly running her thumb over his jawline (a move that unfailingly has pumped up the excitement level of everyone upon whom I've deployed it) at the same time she's soulfully staring into his eyes, rubbing noses, and parting her lips to invite some serious face sucking. "Breathes there a man with a soul so dead that never" ever would he fail to respond to that treatment with passion. Even though we are dealing with fiction, the facial hair on the mmc argues strongly against him being a castrato. If you're looking for a platonic or aromantic romance-like novel, Aloha Texas won't disappoint you. But it's certainly not my idea of how a romantic rekindling of an interrupted romantic involvement would occur. The English usage is appropriate, there are no mixed case errors, blatant typos, incorrect homonym usages, or autocorrected wrong word substitutions. The novel was given good line editing and proofing. All together, it is professionally prepared and presented.

  • Highly enjoyable read

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and storyline in this book. Neither felt too rushed, both developed at a good pace. Would definitely recommend for a good read.
