Hilarious but inspiring bike touring travelogue

I thoroughly enjoyed Andrew's first book, and just finished his second. Andrew is a 40-something teacher who decides one day (rashly, perhaps) to ride across Europe during his summer break. This story is made all the more interesting because Andrew has never been on a long-distance bike tour, isn't in the best of shape, and doesn't know all that much about bike repair. In retrospect, this is really what makes the story so interesting (similar to The Hobbit - would you care about Bilbo's journey if he was a professional adventurer?). Andrew has a wonderful sense of humour, and I found myself laughing out loud on many occasions. He has the ability to give the reader a real feel of both place and his frame of mind as he experiences both triumph and tribulation. He really made me believe that anyone can have an adventure - I completed my first bike tour this summer largely because of being inspired by Andrew's first book.

    Great book

Excellent account of a monumental journey. On a par with Tim Moore's cycling adventures.
