Survival and Love in the Mountains

3.5 stars. This set includes all three books in the Alphas in the Wild series. Each of the books are standalone with a HEA and no cliffhanger. There is a lot of sex and some violence so definitely 18+. These three books are each very different as far as subject matter. What brings them together is that the series centers around surviving and finding love in mountainous terrain. I love how the author weaved in her love of mountains into the stories. Whether that be the High Sierras, an icy peak in the Andes, or the Muir Trail. The Alphas in the Wild series is definitely worth reading.

Strong independent women showing strength &courage

In this first book in the series Alpha's in the Wild, "Hello Darkness," a woman in charge of a crew for the Park Service, she's been used and abused by the last man in her life. She's moved on and is stronger for it. Ready for a new assignment to prove herself, but as can happen, her pass gets in the way. An old love comes back, one that hurt her badly but has a story to tell her why. Her new assignment takes her to the backwoods to find her crew and get a job done. Then things get really strange; if she didn't know better she'd swear evil was out to get her. This is my first read that has a native American in it and it's not always good thing in this story. We have a story of the strength of love no matter how much time has passed and the obsessive madness of not letting go due to hate. I recommend this first of three stories in this series of strong Alpha women. Now to get to the second book so I can let you know if its a thumbs up like this first one was. Well the mountain climbing background in this second book of the series, Alpine Attraction, was something knew for me. The alpha in this story is Tina and seven years earlier while climbing solo in the Andes she was on the brink of losing her life when unexpected help came. But in order to be saved she had to swear to come back in seven years. The experience changed her life; even leaving a good man, Craig, who loved her. We go forward and she is horrifically reminded that the seven years is almost up. This time she knows better than to go alone, and learns that Craig is taking an expedition up the same mountain and signs on as his medic. This story puts you right there with her as she once again is climbing the mountain. We feel her strength and independence mixed in with fear of the unknown. I recommend this story to anyone interested in native legends, magic, courage, and love. When you finish you'll either want to find a mountain to climb or get as far away from them as you can. Wow !! At heart I'm a sci-fi nerd and this third book in the Alpha's in the Wild Series, "Run for Her Money" fits in that genre, along with adventure, thrills, surprising twists, strong characters, sexy love, and a dog; LOVED it. What starts out as a routine park ranger mission, turns into a struggle for survival as Sara discovers that something terrible has happened. At the same time a backpacker is trying desperately to get to a safe haven after evading detection from what seems to be some kind of attack. You'll have to read this story to learn what transpires when these two meet and what they have to go through to survive and learn what has happened. They meet other survivors and what follows next, well all I can say is I want this made into a movie. Get the collection, get them separately, but get these books and you will love reading about these Alpha women and what they go through to make it to a new and better day.

A collection of myth, legend and native culture

This is a set of some shorter stories that are based on myth, legend and native culture and therefore really interesting in the interpretation. Ann did a great job of coming up with these stories. In Hello Darkness Moira runs into her first love, exactly when she is heartbroken from her cheating husband and unprepared for the meeting. The man that had hurt her badly in the past is now a local doctor. Moira is on a trip as park ranger and stumbles again over him, while she has the feeling that her husband, a native shaman, is out to harm her, but she can’t see him. Trapped in the mountains they need to figure everything out. In Alpine Attraction Tina made a long time ago a bargain with a being as she was in a precarious situation in the mountains and now when she had nearly forgotten about it and felt safe, that creature comes back, into her home, reminding her about the toll that she has to pay. Tina had pushed Craig, her former fiancé, out of her life after that event in the mountains, now she wants a last chance to spend some time with him and also to have him, her best friend, at her side when she has to face her destiny. Can they make things right, can they escape this mountain spirit alive? In A Run For Her Money Sara is on a routine park ranger mission and discovers that something terrible has happened, together with her dog she struggles to survive and runs into Jared, a backpacker that had also been “attacked” and is on the run for safety. Together they have to jump into the undiscovered not knowing if they will come out alive. In this collection you can clearly see one of Anns loves, the mountains! Three different and totally amazing stories with strong characters, in fact, I have never read about one week character in Anns books and the story is always new, not the usual mainstream. All the books are well written, the plots are fantastic and they keep you hooked until the end. Absolute read recommendation.

    3 Exciting Paranormal Reads

I was given an ARC of Alpha’s In The Wild by Ann Gimpel in exchange for an honest review. In this book you will be treated to three short stories: Hello Darkness; Alpine Attraction; and A Run For Her Money. In Hello Darkness, Moira works for Kings Canyon-Sequoia Park and must get a medical clearance. When she goes to the clinic, the doctor,Tim, is the man she was in love with many years ago. Are they able to overcome the past and be together? In Alpine Attraction, Tina, has worked with Craig on climbing trips before and she signs up to be the team doctor for this climb. Tina said that she made a pack with the devil 7 years ago and now it is time to pay up. Read the story to see how she plans to do this. In the 3rd story A Run For Her Money Sara a park ranger thinks that she and her dog may be the only survivors of an attack, until she meets Jared. Are they the only survivors and will they be able to get out? This is a great read. Ann has the ability to pull the reader into her books which make the books more enjoyable. Her ability to describe the characters and action so that you are able to see the action in your mind. Another great read by Ann Gimpel.
