    A sweet story

A lovely look at the life at the Mustang Creek where family matters, where the townsfolk take care of each other, and where the Carson brothers are finding love while living life to the fullest. I enjoyed Luce and Drake, the way the interacted together, they way they respected each other and had only honesty and straight talk between them. From the first moment they are real with each other, and talk about issues that rise between them, without any drama and angst in the tale. And even though the nature around them gives them challenges and fright, the affection between Luce and Drake grow and flourish. The story follows the couple's whirlwind romance from the meet-cute to the married life without any conflict or strife between them. From the big issues of Luce's future education and career, to the smaller ones they find a tune between them, and the normally silent cowboy is sharing ideas, thoughts, and feelings. The family and life at the ranch are as important part of the story as it is in Carson's lives. The brothers constant bickering, and the housekeeper Harry's tight rules all tells of the love in-between the family members. The story took me in, and I enjoyed the flow and life at the ranch, with the vivid images the author paints into the reader's mind. And even though many things were told in great detail, the growing of the relationship wasn't one of them. I was left wanting more details, fine points in their lives, more development as characters and as a couple. So overall a smooth and mellow tale of the Carson family of the Mustang Creek, the rugged life on the ranch in Wyoming, and Drake and Luce finding the right person to do life with. ~ Four Spoons

Not as good as I hoped

Always A cowboy by Linda Lael Miller The Carsons of Mustang Creek #2 2 stars - I think I may have read one other book by Linda Lael Miller, so I am not all that familiar with her writing style. This is a new release of hers, yet to me the writing felt dated. Maybe she was trying for that as the Hero was an "old fashioned guy".. but sadly for me, it took a while to read. What I think worked: • Drake and Luce’s banter was good • Red’s odd sayings were funny • I liked the whole Carson clan • Luce interacting with the stallion was neat to watch and I actually wished there was more of that. What I felt didn't work: • I found the pace of the book and story-line quite slow and uneventful. • I didn't feel much emotion with this story. • Even though Drake said he was “old fashioned”, sometimes I felt he went either too far with it or just used that tact when it suited him. I have heard rave reviews about Ms. Miller's writing so perhaps she's just not my style. *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

    Always a Cowboy

Second books in the series, Carson's of Mustang Creek. Drake Carson is the middle son and manages the ranch. He is the quintessential cowboy. Lucinda (Luce) Hale is a graduate student studying the interaction of wild horses on the ranch. It will be interesting to see how the author ties up all the loose ends in Forever a Hero.
