  • 3.5 star rating, still liked it

American Royals by Katharine McGee was an interesting read. When I first started it it sounded very much like the last book of The Selection because Maxon and American’s daughter was destined to be the first queen of the futuristic America and the whole dateline plotline was similar to that one too. I had to put it down because I had just finished reading that book, but a week later I was able to get into it and forget the other book. I liked how this put it’s own spin on history. I did like the characters but I felt like every time I warmed up to one of them or felt a connection, a new chapter with a new POV happened. The character connection was there but it just felt like the brakes were tapped on each time I understood them more. I also wasn’t expecting a four character POV with all individual chapters but I got into that about halfway through finally. There was one obvious character I didn’t like, the one that everybody doesn’t like. I wish we had gotten to know Sam and Teddy more, but I was rooting for Jefferson and Nina the most. (Slight spoiler, but it is pretty obvious.) I did like all of the pairings for once, this doesn’t usually happen. I got a direct comment on Instagram from the author saying nobody’s stories are finished, so it seems like all gloves are off for the second book. Anything seems possible for it. I totally got Chuck and Blair vibes from Ethan and Daphne. I am a bit torn about the rating of this book. I think it is a 3.5 which is really good still. 3.5 doesn’t mean the book was terrible. 3 star ratings are still good! I think book two definitely will have potential since I thought American Royals improved within halfway throughout the book. It was good overall. I loved the cover, I thought it was gorgeous! This was a library ebook.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!

Just like everyone of her other books, Katharine McGee wowed us with this amazing book. I adored every single page of it, from the world to the plot and the characters. I loved how none of the characters were annoying (apart from the anagonist but I didn't hate her either). Overall, this book is a must read for abyobe who loves drama and romance or reading in general.

  • Wonderful!

Alright, so, this book (to me) was stunning, but it definitly had its flaws. I really enjoyed the tension, and there was a lot of that between the characts. I really felt that the author did a superb job portraying that tension, and loved the characters. I think that this book was definitly one of those more 'Characters' driven type of book rather than 'Plot'. It was more of, showing us (as readers) how the characters would mature and change and interact. And I definitly felt that yes, Author, you did a spot on job in that area. But the one thing that annoyed me slightly, was the fact that there were too many characters. I felt that all that extra characters (the other girl's POV) just made the book even more confusing and unessary *ignore the spelling mistake*. Did we really need to know all the 'side romances'? I personally thought that the author entirly focused on Bellatrix, our main - main POV. I honestly thought that Daphene was a waste of time. You really only should've kept the characters to a minimal number, in order to kep the plot moving faster. I felt like it was too much.
