    Love this series!

As a military veteran myself and married to a combat military veteran. I am always cautious when invited to read military romances. But this story has completely floored me in the best way. This story of Emmett and Greer is nothing short of inspirational and sweet! And with a twist that you don't see coming, but makes the story even more heartwarming. Greer is marching to the beat of her own drum.  She feels that the music industry machine has chewed her up and spit her out.  She has lost her mojo when it comes to music and when she made to "face the music" again, well magic happens. Emmett is truly an everyday hero.  He is a combat veteran that has experience tragedy and loss on an epic scale. When he is at his lowest and darkest.  Greer brings a bit of light and laughter into his world. The secondary characters are phenomenal and bring so much more to the story. To see the journey that both Greer and Emmett go through in this story is truly inspirational!  I want to thank Ms. Trentham for making a believable, moving love story with heart!

Characters that feel so real and true

Greer Hadley has a failed music career, has gotten herself into some trouble, and is back home, where she does not want to be. Emmett Lawson was the town’s golden boy – popular, athlete, soldier - but he blames himself for what happened to the men under his command and is hiding out. These two are quite the pair. Neither believes they have anything to offer, and are sure they deserve the rejection, bad luck and loneliness they see in their futures. And stubborn doesn’t even begin to describe them. Underneath the hard exteriors, however, are two big hearts and a huge capacity to love. I love second chance stories, and I love the way author Laura Trentham tells this emotional, wonderful, amazing story of these characters. These heroes. They aren’t teenagers. They’ve experienced some truly hard parts of life, been knocked down and don’t think they can get up. But life has more surprises in store for them. An Everyday Hero is the second book in the Heart of a Hero series. Already a fan of author Trentham’s when the first book, A Military Wife, released I suspected that although it was a new genre for her I was going to love it, and I was right. I hope this series goes on and on. Laura Trentham is an author you should read. Now. There is something that runs through all of her stories, no matter the time period or setting or how breathlessly sexy it might get. I think it's the emotions of the characters, characters that always feel real and true. You will feel sad for them, get angry and disappointed with them, cry when they are hurt and laugh at some of the hilarious things they say and do. But you will always, always love them, and you will be completely filled with satisfaction when the story ends. I received an advance copy of An Everyday Hero from the author and publisher St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I love this book, this series, this author and highly recommend you read An Everyday Hero. You will be glad you did.

    Two everyday heroes!

Two everyday heroes find their way together in this lovely romance! Greer and Emmett are each at the very end of their ropes, coming back home to repair, regroup, and repent as necessary. They each seek refuge with their very-supportive-but-from-another-generation parents as they try to figure out just what's left for them in life. One court-ordered "volunteer" position leads to an unlikely meeting that includes one shotgun and two threats to alert the other's mama. Soon, however, they find that they each are the kick-in-the-seat-of-the-pants that the other needs: “And everyone thinks I’m the one who’s screwed up and hiding from life.” “You are.” “I know I am, but so are you.” This is more than a romance; it's an amazing story of redemption and rebuilding lives. Emmett is haunted by the events that cost him his leg; Greer is floundering from the failure of her dreams. Ally is a young teen struggling to stay afloat after the death of her father, and the connection Greer forges with her changes all three lives. There's just so much depth to this book. Even the parents are written as fully-realized, three-dimensional characters. The conflicts and losses are not dealt with lightly, and the author skillfully guides Greer and Emmett through their personal battles and inevitable growth with plenty of humor and a whole lot of heart. The twist near the end was shocking, yet completely realistic and allowed for a very satisfying convergence of all the individual storylines. I highly recommend this book, especially to anyone who loves military heroes and compelling characters. Greer and Emmett are the perfect embodiment of quiet, everyday heroes who save themselves while saving each other. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Small Town Feel Good Military Romance

This was a very sweet romance that dealt with some very serious issues. I don't often read military themed novels, but I really enjoyed the hopeful message of An Everyday Hero. Laura Trentham's writing was wonderful and I found myself highlighting passages throughout the book. I appreciated that both main characters, Greer and Emmett, were bruised but not broken. They each had their own demons to battle, but they supported and pushed each other to be better and move forward. I felt like the author presented Emmett and Greer's individual concerns and fears realistically, and I loved how she addressed each one. The topics of death, addiction, loss of a parent, anxiety, and the aftermath of war/service were delicately and honestly discussed and I did not see the twist coming. The ending wrapped up a little too perfectly, and it's possible I may have gotten a cavity from how sweet it is. Readers should note that this is a clean, Hallmark style romance, with fade to black scenes. Overall, I enjoyed this small town feel good romance. *I voluntarily read an advance review copy of this book*

    Heartfelt, uplifting, and sweetly romantic!

An Everyday Hero is a compelling, touching tale that reminds us of the enduring emotional, physical, and psychological effects of war on those in the military and their families and highlights the incredible healing power that friendship, trust, love, and music can have. The prose is clear and fluid. The characters are wounded, stubborn, and empathetic. And the story is a beautiful tale about life, loss, grief, family, ambition, forgiveness, introspection, patriotism, community, PTSD, pride, resilience, and love. Overall, An Everyday Hero is another emotional, absorbing, enchanting tale by Trentham that is a wonderful addition to a series, A Heart of a Hero, that is quickly becoming one of my all-time favourites.
