    A Comfortable Read

I read this book because it's one of the final five for Canada Reads 2015. It felt a lot like I was reading a true story, with history woven in with fiction. Real events and familiar places help give the characters a depth not experienced in some novels.

    And the birds rained down

I loved this book. It is beautifully written. I also learned more about the Great Fire, and realized I have been in every town that is mentioned in the book. When driving north to see relatives in Timmins and Iroquois Falls, and Ansonville, I have seenthePlaque mentioning the Great Fire. The story is just so easy to read it really should have won Canada Reads.

    And the Birds Rained Down

While I felt the translation may have tarnished the original description, the plot developed nicely. The book touched my soul, giving me much to appreciate.

    The title is so appropriate.

The characters seem real even though so far removed from the life I know. Having travelled through Northern Ontario many times I feel like I have met people like some of the characters. The desire for such freedom and more unconventional lives was well portrayed by the author.

    And The Birds Rained Down

Great read! Fun, but also highly informative in terms of historical facts. Characters certainly came to life.
