  • Action and adventure

Impossible situations. From the beginning of this series, every time I think Mary Abshire has written herself into a corner, she pulls out another surprise, and off we go to the next seemingly impossible scenario for Alex and company. This fourth book in The Gatekeeper series takes thing up a notch, or ten, or a hundred. Alex has learned about trust the hard way throughout this action-filled series, and she sees the lion's share of loss in this one. Angel Resolve is by far, the most emotional of the series, and I think I was probably mad at the author as often as not while reading this one. It's tough to pull off some of the risks Mary Abshire took with this story and still have a reader like the book as well as I liked this one, but pull it off she did. In fact, I spent the majority of this book on the edge of my seat alternately holding my breath and cursing the author right up to an absolutely killer conclusion. It certainly wasn't the ending I expected, it actually wasn't even the ending I hoped for, but it was really the only ending that made sense for the story. Angel Resolve is part of a series and as a continuing story, I would recommend reading The Gatekeeper series from the beginning. The whole thing is a terrific combination of action and adventure combined with friendship, love, loss, betrayal, and loyalty. It's wonderfully written, imaginative, and thoroughly engaging from start to finish.
