  • Wonderful manga, disappointing translation

Arte is a really wonderful manga, with incredible art and extremely likeable characters. While it isn't full-on Kaoru Mori crazy-well researched, it's still well-researched and you can learn a lot reading it too. I'm really disappointed in the translation, though. This reads like a scanlation, with characters dialogue often sounding stilted or odd, especially in this first volume (it smooths out a bit by volume two, which is a relief.) Some things are also translated oddly... for example, Florence isn't translated at all, just transliterated as "Firenza." Sure, Firenza is technically closer to the original Italian pronunciation of Florence, but also, that's not what we call that city in English and I think it's more important for readers to have a point of reference for the actual location of this manga! Overall, it's hard not to recommend Arte, but I'm really wishing this manga had the release it deserves--it seems such a shame not to get a print edition with such a beautifully illustrated work.

    Thanks for your feedback!
