  • Fowl in name, Unfoul in quality

....*coughs*... moving on from my bad pun, Artemis Fowl is indeed an enjoyable book. Unique too: while it's certainly not uncommon to have child protagonists who are special in some way- they may be prodigies, have superpowers, be an heir trained to the '____' dynasty, etc.- this book changes things up a bit by having the main character be a 12 year old criminal mastermind. Moreover he isn't committing crimes for selfless reasons like fighting back against an evil empire, helping the poor, or trying to complete some quest; he's just after money. And yet somehow, despite being a conniving little brat, he still manages to gain your sympathies; there's a certain charm and vulnerability to him that makes you want to root for him. The adventure is as thrilling as you would expect based on the description- a thrilling blend of science and magic that comes across as believable, despite being fantasy- but I would go as far to say that the protagonist on his own makes the story worth your time :)

  • Amazing Book!

I read these books years ago as a kid, I decided to read them again on a whim and am not disappointed.

  • On My Favorires List

Eoin Colfer has been added to the (very selective) lis of my favorite author for these reasons: The world he created is amazing, with descriptions just long enough to pique your interest. The characters. I love movies like Now You See Me, Ocean's 11, and The Italian Job, and Eion Eoin Colfer has created the perfect crinimal mastermind in Artemis Fowl. And not only is the main characer engaging, but each character feels more than real. The plot(s). Each book (I've read all but one) has a brilliant plot, and an underlying string seems to connect all the books together, like any good series. The code. Oops, is that a spoiler? Unfortunatly, I have not read the books over again, so I do not know how well they do for reading over and over (though this does change from reader to reader). Even so, it is on my fav authors list along with John Flanagan, Anthony Howoritz, and Tui T. Sutherland.

  • FANTASTIC BOOK

Great book, I had a few doubts at the start but those doubts were rendered wrong. My kids also enjoyed this book. I once found them totally immersed in the book.
